  • DRIVE UNIT FOR A TWO‑WHEELER

The drive unit (19) according to the invention for lightweight vehicles, in particular bicycles, comprises a wheel unit (20) and a motor unit (21). The wheel unit (20) has a sprocket (27) and at least one, preferably two guide tracks, along which the motor unit (21), which is otherwise movably mounted but is connected to the frame (11) with respect to the circumferential direction, travels, thus forming a riding mounting arrangement of the motor unit (21) on the wheel unit (20). In this manner, even in the case of an extremely lightweight construction, as can be encountered in bicycles, and during athletic performances, smooth meshing of the wheel sprocket (27) and the drive pinion (45) is always achieved.

  • Critical power two wheeler driving patterns at the emergence of an incident

Vlahogianni, Eleni I.   Yannis, George   Golias, John C.

The paper proposes a methodology based on Bayesian Networks for identifying the power two wheeler (PTW) driving patterns that arise at the emergence of a critical incident based on high resolution driving data (100 Hz) from a naturalistic PTW driving experiment. The proposed methodology aims at identifying the prevailing PTW drivers' actions at the beginning and during critical incidents and associating the critical incidents to specific PTW driving patterns. Results using data from one PTW driver reveal three prevailing driving actions for describing the onset of an incident and an equal number of actions that a PTW driver executes during the course of an incident to avoid a crash. Furthermore, the proposed methodology efficiently relates the observed sets of actions with different types of incidents occurring during overtaking or due to the interactions of the rider with moving or stationary obstacles and the opposing traffic. The observed interrelations define several driving patterns that are characterized by different initial actions, as well as by different likelihood of sequential actions during the incident. The proposed modeling may have significant implications to the efficient and less time consuming analysis of the naturalist data, as well as to the development of custom made PTW driver assistance systems. • VISUAL IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM FOR TWO WHEELER VEHICLES

A visual identification system to be fitted to a two wheeler vehicle including a housing to be fastened to a first end of the two wheeler vehicle. The housing includes a main frame, a tube assembly and a spring. A sheet is coiled over a surface of the tube assembly and fixed to the housing at a first end of the sheet and includes one or more of a printed image, a design, a text or an advertisement to enable a visual identification of the two wheeler vehicle. A hook is fixed at a second end of the sheet and is connected to a second end of the two wheeler vehicle to form an angle ranging from 0 to 10 degrees with respect to the horizontal. The spring enables unwinding of the sheet into the housing on the hook being detached from the second end of the two wheeler vehicle.

  • Methods and systems for data analysis using the Burrows Wheeler transform

The present disclosure provides computer implemented methods and systems for analyzing datasets, such as large data sets output from nucleic acid sequencing technologies. In particular, the present disclosure provides for data analysis comprising computing the BWT of a collection of strings in an incremental, character by character, manner. The present disclosure also provides compression boosting strategies resulting in a BWT of a reordered collection of data that is more compressible by second stage compression methods compared to non-reordered computational analysis.

  • Plug-in hybrid conversion of three wheeler using a novel drive strategy

Amjad, Shaik   Rudramoorthy, R.   Neelakrishnan, S.   Gurusubramanian, Sabarish   Raja, J. Dheepan   Mathew, Renjit   Sundaravel, M.

In Asia, three–wheelers (auto rickshaws) represent a very important mode of intermediate public transport and serving as an effective feeder to the mass transport system. However, the significant contribution to pollution levels by three wheelers has demanded for a possibility of a future solution to ensure better air standards in urban areas where the population of auto rickshaws are higher. Interest is growing in plug–in hybrid technology that offers advantages of clean and more efficient vehicles compared to the current hybrids. In this paper, the development of a novel energy management strategy suitable for Indian city driving conditions for a converted plug–in hybrid auto rickshaw is discussed. The automatic switching strategy incorporated in the control system of the plug–in hybrid auto rickshaw enables the vehicle to offer better fuel economy and advantages of lower emission, by minimising the idling and slow power running regions of an internal combustion engine. The vehicle's energy management strategy has been tested with the various modes for the plug–in hybrid auto rickshaw. The implementation of plug–in hybrid concept with a novel drive strategy for three–wheelers will lead to reduction of urban emissions and hence better air quality for Indian cities and also provides much cheaper public transportation system.
