  • Air bag cover and membrane horn switch assembly

An air bag module and membrane horn switch assembly includes an air bag cover, a membrane horn switch, a backing plate fixedly mounted on the cover in spaced relation to the cover, and a switch containment portion disposed on the backing plate. The switch containment portion releasably captures the membrane horn switch within the switch containment portion such that the membrane horn switch is normally positioned in spaced relation to the cover and such that the membrane horn switch is activated by downward movement of the cover towards the membrane horn switch. In addition, the switch containment portion also permits release and removal of the membrane horn switch from the switch containment portion while the backing plate remains fixed to the cover. Advantageously, the membrane horn switch can be removed and replaced while the cover and the backing plate remain stationary and undamaged.

  • Guard for the blade of a knife

A shield is provided for a surgical scalpel having a handle and a blade secured thereto. In one embodiment, the shield is slidably engaged with the blade, and movable between a position covering the cutting edge of the blade and a position exposing the cutting edge of the blade. An actuation mechanism is coupled to the shield for moving the shield between the position covering the cutting edge and the position exposing the cutting edge. In another embodiment, the shield is pivotally and frictionally engaged to the blade while still allowing the shield to be moved between a position covering the cutting edge of the blade and a position exposing the cutting edge of the blade. An actuation mechanism is included to cause the travel of the shield between the two positions.

  • System for remote latching and delatching

A system for latching and delatching a first article (14) to and from respectively of a second article (12), having a latch member (18,20) with an elongated shaft (28) and an actuator (34) at a trailing end (36) and a latch (30) projecting laterally from a leading end (32). The leading end (32) extends beyond the end of a passageway (64,66) containing the shaft (28) to cooperate with a ledge (40) of the second article for latching. Manipulation of the actuator (34) at the rearward end (26) of the first article (14) enables latching and delatching of the latch (30) with the ledge (40), thereby enabling remote latching and delatching of said first article with and from said second article.

  • Nasal positive airway pressure mask and method

A nasal positive airway pressure mask is provided having a variable orifice venting aperture member. The variable orifice venting aperture member preferably is mounted to the mask frame, but may be mounted at other locations. The variable orifice vent aperture member expands under increased pressure, e.g., during exhalation, and contracts to its original diameter at lower pressures, e.g., during inhalation, to provide variable venting capacity during positive airway pressure treatment.

  • Passive sound gathering apparatus

A head worn sound gathering apparatus having a pair of sound gathering horns with rearward facing apertures. Each sound gathering horn includes a tapered sound channeling tube portion which communicates with an ear covering. Sound received through the rearward facing apertures is amplified and directed to the ear coverings wherein the sounds reach the ears of a wearer. The sound gathering horns and ear covers are preferably worn in association with a helmet such as a cyclist helmet.

  • Rearward sound enhancing apparatus

A head-worn acoustic receiver apparatus for use by cyclists and the like wherein an acoustic receiver cup is coupled to a cyclist helmet in a rearward facing direction. A microphone within the acoustic receiver cup receives sound reflected by the cup and directs the sound to earphones wherein the sound is reproduced and amplified for the wearer of the invention. Ear housings, which contain the earphones, are positioned over the wearer's ears to reduce the ambient wind noise associated with cycle travel.

  • Connector for connection to a rail

An electrical connector (1,100) for a DIN rail (2) with rail flanges (6), including a body (3,102), a carrier (16,104) vertically movable with respect to the body (3,102), an actuator (14,110) and a pair of clamp members (5,106,108) having rail-engageable hook portions (26,148). At least one of the clamp members (5,106,108) is movable toward the other by the carrier (16,104) upon actuation for mechanically and electrically clamping onto a respective rail flange (6). A pair of such clamp members (5) may be cammed inwardly and upwardly along slots (30) in side walls (9) of body (3) upon actuation, or the clamp members (106,108) may include flanges (158) pivotably held in body side wall holes (162) for rotating the hook portions (148) inwardly and upwardly against the rail flanges (6). Such connector (1,100) is adapted to be mounted beneath a circuit board (10) prior to being clamped onto the DIN rail (2).

  • System for controlling updates of extended data services (EDS) data

A system for processing a television signal including a data component, such as extended data services data, includes a decoder for processing the data component to provide data representing time information. A control device responds to the data for modifying time information, e.g., time of day, that is maintained in the system. The time information decoded from the video signal is compared to the time information maintained in the system to determine a time difference. If the time difference is in a predetermined range, the time difference indicates that the time information from the television signal is invalid. The control device responds to the time difference being in the predetermined range by preventing modification of the time information maintained in the system. A user may provide an input via a device such as a remote control to control the manner in which the control device responds to the time difference.
