  • Migrating a running, preempted workload in a grid computing system

    A preempt of a live migratable workload, or job, in a distributed computing environment is performed, allowing it to release its resources for use by a higher priority workload by moving to another place in the distributed computing environment without interruption. A job scheduler receives a request to schedule a higher priority job, wherein resources needed to run the higher priority job are already dedicated for use by a currently running lower priority job. A dummy job is scheduled at a highest priority that is a copy of the lower priority job. Resources required to run the dummy job are reserved. A live migration of the lower priority job to another host is initiated, and its resources are then released. Upon a successful completion of the live migration of the lower priority job, the higher priority job is then dispatched to run using the now released resources.

  • Optimization design of spar cap layup for wind turbine blade

    Based on the aerodynamic shape and structural form of the blade are fixed, a mathematical model of optimization design for wind turbine blade is established. The model is pursued with respect to minimum the blade mass to reduce the cost of wind turbine production. The material layup numbers of the spar cap are chosen as the design variables; while the demands of strength, stiffness and stability of the blade are employed as the constraint conditions. The optimization design for a 1.5MW wind turbine blade is carried out by combing above objective and constraint conditions at the action of ultimate flap wise loads with the finite element software ANSYS. Compared with the original design, the optimization design result achieves a reduction of 7.2% of the blade mass, the stress and strain distribution of the blade is more reasonable, and there is no occurrence of resonance, therefore its effectiveness is verified.

    Methods and systems to calibrate I/Q imbalance with digital equalizers to compensate frequency dependent IQ imbalance, weighted summation modules to compensate frequency independent IQ imbalance, switch modules to controllably direct calibration signals through selected components and to a digital compensation calculator and to control tuner phases during calibration. The equalizers and summation modules may provide genetic IQ imbalance compensation. Methods and systems disclosed herein may be implemented with respect to relatively wideband systems having non-linear spectrum responses, and other systems.

  • Fabrication of W–Ni–Fe alloys with gradient structures

    A sintering couple of green compacts with compositions of 88W-5Mo-4.9-2.1Fe and 93W-4.9Ni-2.1Fe respectively, were processed by liquid phase sintering. The microstructure and content of binding phase at different regions along the direction perpendicular to the original interface were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The distribution of Mo content in composite was determined by energy dispersive analysis (EDS) and the micro hardness in different regions were measured by Vickers micro hardness tester. Results show that the grain size, volume fraction of binding phase and micro hardness vary gradually due to the graded distribution of molybdenum, which also introduces a solid/liquid interfacial tension gradient and the unbalanced liquid phase pressure serving as the driving force for liquid phase migration during liquid phase sintering.[All rights reserved Elsevier].

  • Synthesis of carbon–titania composite and its application as catalyst support

    We reported the synthesis of a promising carbon-titania composite material, C/TiO 2, and its application as the catalyst support in citral hydrogenation. The composite was synthesized by methane decomposition over formed TiO 2 using Ni-Cu as a catalyst. C/TiO 2 synthesized was subsequently employed to prepare its supported palladium catalyst, Pd/C/TiO 2. The textural and structural properties of C/TiO 2 and Pd/C/TiO 2 were characterized by BET, SEM/EDS, TEM, ICP-AES, XRD and TG-DTG. The catalytic properties of Pd/C/TiO 2 were evaluated in selective hydrogenation of citral to citronellal. Results revealed that the addition of a little promoter Cu in composite synthesis helped to the improvement in textural and structural properties of C/TiO 2. The optimal composite prepared had a BET surface area of 60 m 2 g -1 and 97% of its pore space were mesopore. It contained 38% of carbon composed of 90% of carbon nanofibers and 10% of amorphous carbon. Pd/C/TiO 2 prepared held the similar textural and structural properties as C/TiO 2 did. Although the comparatively lower catalytic activity caused by the lower palladium dispersion, Pd/C/TiO 2 exhibited the high citronellal selectivity (90%) at 90% citral conversion, which was attributed to the elimination of internal diffusion limitations due to its mesoporous structure. The optimization study of the artificial person picking system has a crucial role to enhance the efficiency of batch picking, then increasing customer satisfaction. For picking route optimization problem, single or multiple picking equipment may be considered in the actual operation process in order to choose the shortest path as the objective function to establish the optimization model in this paper. And genetic algorithm is designed in detail to solve this model.

  • Clinical observation on carpal joint sprain by puncturing Juliao (GB 29)

    Objective To observe the effect of puncturing Juliao (GB 29) in treating carpal joint sprain. Methods 99 cases were randomly divided into 3 groups, treatment, control 1 and control 2 groups, 33 cases for each group. Cases in treatment group were treated by acupuncture on Juliao (GB 29); patients in control 1 group were treated by acupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP 6), and patients in control 2 group were treated by local application. The clinical effect was compared among three groups after the treatment. Results The effective rate in the treatment group is 96.9%, which is over and above 84.8% in control 1 group and 75.8% in control 2 group (both P<0.05). Conclusion Acupuncture at Juliao (GB 29) has a precise curative effect in treating sprain of carpal joint. It is more effective than acupuncture at Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and local application.

    We provide improved estimates of the equity risk premium in markets within Greater China. To be consistent, we perform the estimation for periods when mar- kets are recovering from the bottom. To justify the... ndings, we also apply a relative estimation approach, which takes into account the lower required rate of return for Chinese investors due to lack of investment opportunities. After making these adjust- ments, we... nd that risk premia in Shanghai and Shenzhen are close to risk premia in Hong Kong and Taiwan. All of these risk premia are higher than the corresponding risk premium for the U. S. market.

  • Infrared vision sensing detection method and device for narrow-gap weld seam deviation

    An infrared vision sensing detection method and device for narrow-gap weld seam deviation are provided. The device includes a shaking (or rotating) arc narrow-gap welding torch, an arc current sensor, a computer image processing system, and an infrared photographing system. The infrared photographing system includes an infrared camera which acquires an infrared image of a welding region in an external triggering manner when an arc shakes (or rotates) to a position closest to the left side wall or right side wall of a groove. After computer image processing, a welding wire position and a groove edge information is extracted in real time, and a weld seam deviation is calculated according to position changes of a welding wire relative to the left side wall and the right side wall of the groove, and the weld seam deviation is output. During pulsed arc welding, a signal in a base value period of the arc current pulse is detected by using the current sensor, thereby realizing welding image acquisition synchronized with the base value current period of the pulsed arc.

    A novel compact polarimeter for the use in soft x-ray region having high-precision eight-axis automatically driven and two-axis manually driven equipped with multilayer polarizers was developed at the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF). The polarimeter was designed to utilize reflection and transmission geometry. Four operational modes have been designed and carried out with the polarimeter. Some experiments have been performed by using this polarimeter with various modes.
