  • Rotational excitation and de-excitation of C 2(X 1Sigma g+) by para-H 2(j=0)

    Najar, F.   Ben Abdallah, D.   Jaidane, N.   Ben Lakhdar, Z.   Chambaud, G.   Hochlaf, M.

For the van der Waals C 2(X 1Sigma g+)-H 2 molecular system, we generated a new ab initio potential energy surface (PES). We mapped this PES at the multireference internally contracted configuration-interaction method including the Davidson correction together with a large diffuse basis set. Then, we incorporated our PES into quantum scattering calculations at the close coupling and infinite order sudden approximation methods to cover collision energies ranging from 0.1 up to 4000 cm -1. After Boltzmann thermal averaging, rate coefficients for temperatures of up to 1000 K are deduced. Discrepancies between our new rates and those computed previously are noticed. This should induce deviations in astrophysical modeling.

  • THz SPECTROSCOPY OF AlH (X (1)Sigma(+)): DIRECT MEASUREMENT OF THE J=2 <- 1 TRANSITION

    Halfen, D. T.   Ziurys, L. M.

The J = 2. 1 rotational transition of AlH (X 1S+) near 755 GHz and the J = 4. 3 line of AlD (X 1S+) near 787 GHz have been measured using terahertz direct absorption spectroscopy. Both species were created in an AC discharge of Al(CH3) 3 and H2 or D2 in the presence of argon. This work is the first direct measurement of both transitions. These data were combined with previous submillimeter transition frequencies for both molecules recorded by Halfen & Ziurys in global analyses to refine their spectroscopic parameters. The constants B and D for AlH were determined for the first time based on pure rotational data only, improving their accuracy, while those for AlD were slightly refined. Predictions for higher-lying transitions of AlH must consequently be revised by at least 50 MHz, a significant difference. AlH has been observed via its A 1.-X 1S+ electronic transition in stellar photospheres, suggesting that this species may be present in circumstellar gas surrounding late-type stars, where five aluminum-bearing molecules have already been detected.

  • The possible J(PC)I(G)=2(++)2(+) state X(1600)

    Wei, W.   Zhang, L.   Zhu, Shi-Lin

The interesting state X(1600) with J(PC)I(G) = 2(++)2(+) cannot be a conventional q (q) over bar meson in the quark model. Using a mixed interpolating current with different color configurations, we investigate the possible existence of X(1600) in the framework of QCD finite energy sum rules. Our results indicate that both the "hidden color" and coupled channel effects may be quite important in the multiquark system. We propose several reactions to look for this state.

  • Glycosmis longipetala F. J. Mou & D. X. Zhang, a new species of Rutaceae from China

    Mou, Feng-Juan   Zhang, Dian-Xiang

Glycosmis longipetala F. J. Mou & D. X. Zhang is described from Guangxi and Yunnan provinces in southwestern China. The new species is similar to G. cochinchinensis (Lour.) Pierre ex Engl. by its simple leaves, but distinguishable in having long-elliptic or oblanceolate (vs. ovate) leaves, long-ovoid to ellipsoid (vs. ovoid) floral buds, ovaries with many tubercles (vs. smooth) and glabrous (vs. pubescent) stamens. The pollen grains of the new species are 23.9 +/- 3.09 (20.8-27.0)x22.0 +/- 1.80 (20.4-24.4) mu m in size with reticulate exine ornamentation in equatorial area and foveolate in polar area. The chromosome number of the new species is 2n=72.

  • Scalar charmonium and glueball mixing in e(+)e(-)-> J/psi X

Dulat, S   Hagiwara, K   Lin, ZH

We study the possibility of the scalar charmonium and glueball mixing in e(+)e(-) annihilation at roots = 10.6 GeV The effects can be used to explain the unexpected large cross section (12 +/- 4 fb) and the anomalous angular distribution (alpha = -1.1(-0.6)(+0.8)) of the exclusive e(+)e(-) --> J/psichi(c0) process observed by Belle experiments at KEKB. We calculate the helicity amplitudes for the process e(+)e(-) --> J/psiH(0(++)) in NRQCD, where H(0(++)) is the mixed state. We present a detailed analysis on the total cross section and various angular asymmetries which could be useful to reveal the existence of the scalar glueball state. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. • The equation x(i)=y(j)z(k) in a free semigroup

    Harju, T   Nowotka, D

The equation x(i) = y(j)z(k) has only periodic solutions in a free semigroup. This result was first proven by Lyndon and Schutzenberger. We present a very short proof of this classical result. Moreover, we establish that the power of two or more of a primitive word cannot be factorized into conjugates of a different word.

  • Measurement of J(c) and n-value for (Y(1-x)Gd(x))Ba(2)Cu(3)O(y) films prepared by MOD

    Tsukada, K.   Sohma, M.   Yamaguchi, I.   Matsui, H.   Kumagai, T.   Manabe, T.

The n-value, i.e., an index of the power-law E-J characteristics: E = J(n) = (I/A)(n), as well ask is an important parameter of high-T(c) superconducting films for the application to fault-current limiters (FCL). The control of these parameters is expected to bring reliable operation to the FCL system. In order to clarify the relationship between n-value and J(c). (Y(1-x)Gd(x))Ba(2)Cu(3)O(y) [(Y(1-x)Gd(x))BCO] films with various chemical compositions were prepared by fluorine-free metalorganic deposition (MOD) and their effects on J(c) and n-value were investigated. For YBCO films on CeO(2)-buffered r-cut sapphire and on CeO(2)-buffered LaAlO(3), n-values were almost constant, i.e., around 40-50. On the other hand (Y(1-x)Gd(x))BCO films exhibited smaller n-values, i.e., around 25-35, although their J(c)'s were as high as those for YBCO films, namely, over 2 MA/cm(2). (c) 2010 Elsevier B.V. • Mapping blood pressure loci in (A/J x B6) F2 mice

    Woo, DDL   Kurtz, I

Although the genetics of rare, monogenic, forms of human hypertension are fairly well defined, the genetics of the common polygenic form of human essential hypertension is only emerging. With the ability to control environmental variables, animal models have provided valuable tools with which to study blood pressure (BP) homeostasis. We have now studied BP genetics in a model consisting of 1,521 F2 mice from a series of (A/J x B6) intercrosses kept under standardized conditions. Using whole genome quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping, we have identified four novel significant BP loci. These included Abbp1 on mouse chromosome MMU1 [maximum LOD score (MLS) at similar to35 cM = 6.8], Abbp2 on MMU4 (MLS at similar to25 cM = 9.8), Abbp3 on MMU7 (MLS at similar to25 cM = 5.4), and Abbp4 on MMU11 ( MLS at similar to58 cM = 6.3). Compared with A/J homozygotes, homozygosity for the B6 alleles of Abbp1, Abbp2, or Abbp4 is independently associated with a 7-12 mmHg increase in BP. In contrast Abbp3 interacts epistatically with a locus on MMU17 (near D17Mit180) to modulate BPs in female (A/J x B6) F2 mice. Interestingly, Abbp4 on MMU11 is homologous to a major confirmed BP locus, BP1, on rat chromosome 10 and to a major confirmed BP locus, HYT1, on human chromosome 17. Defining the molecular differences between the A/J and the B6 alleles at these novel loci with major influences on the BP phenotype will contribute to our understanding of the complex genetics of BP control.

  • On the Recursive Sequence x(n)=1+Sigma(k)(i)=1 alpha(i)x(n-pi)/Sigma(m)(j=1)beta(j)x(n-qj)

    Stevic, Stevo

We give a complete picture regarding the behavior of positive solutions of the following important difference equation: x(n) = 1+ Sigma(k)(i=1) alpha(i)x(n-pi) /Sigma(m)(j=1)beta(j) x(n-qj), n is an element of N-0, where alpha(i), i is an element of {1,..., k}, and beta(j), j is an element of {1,..., m}, are positive numbers such that Sigma(k)(i=1) alpha(i) = Sigma(m)(j=1) beta(j) = 1, and p(i), i is an element of {1,..., k}, and q(j), j is an element of {1,..., m}, are natural numbers such that p(1) < p(2) < ... < p(k) and q(1) < q(2) < ... < q(m). The case when gcd (p(1),..., p(k), q(1),..., q(m)) = 1 is the most important. For the case we prove that if all p(i), i is an element of {1,..., k}, are even and all q(j), j is an element of {1,..., m}, are odd, then every positive solution of this equation converges to a periodic solution of period two, otherwise, every positive solution of the equation converges to a unique positive equilibrium.
