  • Modifying a tokenizer based on pseudo data for natural language processing

    Techniques for training a tokenizer (or word segmenter) are provided. In one technique, a tokenizer tokenizes a token string to identify individual tokens or words. A language model is generated based on the identified tokens or words. A vocabulary about an entity, such as a person or company, is identified. The vocabulary may be online data that refers to the entity, such as a news article or a profile page of a member of a social network. Some of the tokens in the vocabulary may be weighted higher than others. The language model accepts the weighted vocabulary as input and generates pseudo sentences. Alternatively, regular expressions are used to generate the pseudo sentences. The pseudo sentences are used to train the tokenizer.

  • Generating multi-language social network user profiles by translation

    Techniques are provided to allow users of a social network to have multilingual profiles (or profiles in second languages that are different than the users' native, or original, profile languages). In one technique, a translation model is applied to one or more data items (in a first language) in a user's profile to generate translated data items in a second language. The translated data items are displayed to the user (or an online social “friend” of the user) and the user is allowed to select one of the translated data items to include in the user's “second language” profile. The selection may then be used to improve the translation model.

    Techniques for identifying multilingual cognates and using the multilingual cognates are provided. In one technique, multilingual cognates identified from multiple user profiles are used to train one or more translation models. In another technique, multilingual cognates identified from a single user's profile are used to translate text provided by that user. In another technique, multilingual cognates from a single user are used to align sentences in one language to sentences in another language and the aligned sentences are used to train a language model. In another technique, multilingual cognates identified from multiple user profiles are used to expand search queries. In another technique, multilingual cognates identified from multiple user profiles are used to translate other users' profiles into a target language so that users associated with a source language are viewing the other users' profiles.

    The present disclosure discloses a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) design which is suitable for providing a high output power high-speed DAC, e.g., in radio frequency applications. The DAC design utilizes a parallel DAC structure, e.g., having 8 parallel DACs and an aggregate current output, to provide a high and programmable current output (in some implementations, up to 512 mA or more). The parallel DAC structure alleviates the design problems which exist in trying to output a high amount of current using a single DAC. The DAC design further utilizes a hybrid structure which integrates the signal chain for a more reliable system. In some embodiments, the hybrid structure uses a CMOS process for the current sources and switches and a GaAs cascode stage for combining the outputs to optimally leverage the advantages of both technologies. The result is a highly efficient DAC (with peak output power programmable up to 29 dBm or more).

    The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a laterally insulated-gate bipolar transistor, comprising: providing a wafer having an N-type buried layer (10), an STI (40), and a first N well (22)/a first P well (24) which are formed successively from above a substrate; depositing and forming a high-temperature oxide film on the first N well (22) of the wafer; performing thermal drive-in on the wafer and performing photoetching and etching on the high-temperature oxide film to form a mini oxide layer (60); performing photoetching and ion implantation so as to form a second N well (32) inside the first N well (22) and second P wells (34) inside the first N well (22) and the first P well (24); then successively forming a gate oxide layer and a polysilicon gate (72), wherein one end of the gate oxide layer and the polysilicon gate (72) extends onto the second P well (34) inside the first N well (22), and the other end extends onto the mini oxide layer (60) on the second N well (32); and photoetching and injecting N-type ions between the mini oxide layer (60) and the STI (40) adjacent to the mini oxide layer (60) to form a drain electrode, and at the same time forming a source electrode (51) inside the second P well (34).

  • Morphology and electrical properties of carbon coated LiFePO4 cathode materials

    Core-shell LiFePO 4@C composites were synthesized successfully from FePO 4/C precursor using the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the reducing agent, followed by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) assisted solid-state reaction in the presence of Li 2CO 3. Some physical and chemical properties of the products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Raman, SEM, TEM techniques. The effect of morphology and electrochemical properties of the composites were thoroughly investigated. XRD patterns showed that LiFePO 4 has an order olivine structure with space group of Pnma. TEM micrographs exhibited that the LiFePO 4 particles encapsulated with 3-nm thick carbon shells. The powders were homogeneous with grain size of about 0.8 mum. Compared with those synthesized by traditional organic carbon source mixed method, LiFePO 4@C composite synthesized by CVD method exhibited better discharge capacity at initial 155.4 and 135.8 mAh g -1 at 0.1C and 1C rate, respectively. It is revealed that the carbon layer coated on the surface of LiFePO 4 and the amorphous carbon wrapping and connecting the particles enhanced the electronic conductivity and rate performances of the cathode materials.[All rights reserved Elsevier].

  • Predicting pronouns of dropped pronoun style languages for natural language translation

    A method, an apparatus and an article of manufacture for determining a dropped pronoun from a source language. The method includes collecting parallel sentences from a source and a target language, creating at least one word alignment between the parallel sentences in the source and the target language, mapping at least one pronoun from the target language sentence onto the source language sentence, computing at least one feature from the mapping, wherein the at least one feature is extracted from both the source language and the at least one pronoun projected from the target language, and using the at least one feature to train a classifier to predict position and spelling of at least one pronoun in the target language when the at least one pronoun is dropped in the source language.

  • Facilitated diffusion of VEGF165 through descemet's membrane with sucrose octasulfate

    Vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) is a promoter of neovascularization and thus a popular therapeutic target for diseases involving excessive growth of blood vessels. In this study, we explored the potential of the disaccharide sucrose octasulfate (SOS) to alter VEGF165 diffusion through Descemet's membrane. Descemet's membranes were isolated from bovine eyes and used as a barrier between two chambers of a diffusion apparatus to measure VEGF transport. Diffusion studies revealed a dramatic increase in VEGF165 transport in the presence of SOS, with little diffusion of VEGF165 across the membrane over a 10-h time course in the absence of SOS. Diffusion studies with VEGF121, a non-heparin binding variant of VEGF, showed robust diffusion with or without SOS. To determine a possible mechanism, we measured the ability of SOS to inhibit VEGF interactions with extracellular matrix (ECM), using cell-free and cell surface binding assays. Binding studies showed SOS had no effect on VEGF165 binding to either heparin-coated plates or endothelial cell surfaces at less than mg/ml concentrations. In contrast, we show that SOS inhibited VEGF165 binding to fibronectin in a dose dependent manner and dramatically accelerated the rate of release of VEGF165 from fibronectin. SOS also inhibited the binding of VEGF165 to fibronectin-rich ECM deposited by vascular smooth muscle cells. These results suggest that fibronectin-rich extracellular matrices serve as barriers to VEGF165 diffusion by providing a network of binding sites that can trap and sequester the protein. Since the content of Descemet's membrane is typical of many basement membranes it is possible that they serve throughout the body as formidable barriers to VEGF165 diffusion and tightly regulate its bioavailability and distribution within tissues.
