  • A pH-Tailored Anodic Deposition of Hydrous RuO2 for Supercapacitors

    A pH-tailored anodic deposition strategy is reported in this work, by which the hydrous ruthenium oxide (RuO2) can be directly deposited on titanium (Ti) substrates. The prepared RuO2 electrode exhibits a well kinetic performance (the remarkably low equivalent series resistance of R-es similar to 2 m omega and charge transfer resistance of R-ct similar to 0.11 omega) and a high specific capacitance of 756 F g(-1) at 0.6 A g(-1). More importantly, a symmetric supercapacitor based on the RuO2 electrode delivers a high specific energy of 24 Wh kg(-1) at 150 W kg(-1). Even at a large specific power of 26.25 kW kg(-1), specific energy is still as high as 8.6 Wh kg(-1), meanwhile achieving a long lifespan of 98% retention over 100,000 cycles. All of these distinguishing properties not only enable the prepared RuO2 to be an excellent electrode material for high-power output and long life supercapacitors, but also indicates that the pH-tailored anodic deposition strategy reported in this work is effective to prepare high-performance RuO2 electrode.

  • A Trade Credit Model with Asymmetric Competing Retailers

    We study a supply chain of a manufacturer selling to two asymmetric retailers engaged in inventory (order quantity) competition in the presence of demand uncertainty and an exogenously given retail price. The effective demand of each retailer includes its primary demand and reallocated demand from its competitor. We model two salient features causing asymmetry: (i) the weak retailer is capital-constrained and (ii) the bargaining power of the dominant retailer implies that it enjoys a lower wholesale price. The manufacturer offers trade credit to the weak, capital-constrained retailer. We show that such trade credit can be used by the manufacturer as a strategic response to the bargaining power of its dominant retailer. Computational examples reveal that under inventory competition, the capital-constrained retailer benefits from the trade credit, leaving the dominant retailer worse off. We show that demand substitution increases the profit of the dominant retailer and the manufacturer but, somewhat surprisingly, decreases the weak retailer's profit. When both bank and trade credit are available, we show conditions under which trade credit is preferred over bank credit by the manufacturer. Compared with a trade credit with an endogenous interest rate (and an exogenously given wholesale price), a trade credit with an endogenous wholesale price (and an exogenously given interest rate) is preferred by the manufacturer, but is only preferred by the system when the weak retailer's initial working capital is small.

  • Option contract strategies with risk-aversion and emergency purchase

    This paper considers a one-period supply chain consisting of a risk-averse retailer and a risk-neutral supplier. As a Stackelberg leader, the supplier produces short life-cycle products to the retailer and determines the option price. The newsvendor-like retailer orders call option from the supplier with an emergency order opportunity. The analytical model shows that when the emergency purchase price is low, the risk-averse retailer's optimal order quantity is less than that of a risk-neutral retailer and independent of the retail price. It is surprising that when it is moderate or high, the risk-averse retailer may order less than, equal to, or more than a risk-neutral one. Computational studies are given to investigate the key parameters on optimal decisions and profits. It shows a risk-averse retailer may get higher profit than a risk-neutral one. The retailer benefits from a low emergency purchase price, while it harms the supplier.

  • Centralized fixed cost allocation for generalized two-stage network DEA

    Many studies have dealt with the problem of fixed cost allocation by using data envelopment analysis. However, existing models allocate the fixed cost by treating the decision-making units (DMUs) as black-boxes and ignore the internal production structures of DMUs. To our knowledge, only a few work has considered the fixed cost allocation problem for an elementary two-stage production structure without external inputs and outputs. This paper deals with the fixed cost allocation problem for a general two-stage network production structure, in which both external inputs and outputs exist. Specifically, additive two-stage models are first presented to evaluate the performance for each DMU when allocating the fixed cost. Then, by introducing the concepts of satisfaction degree and fairness degree, we propose an approach to obtain an optimal allocation plan under the control of the centralized authority. Finally, an application to 27 banks is utilized to illustrate the proposed approach.

    Disclosed is a system control method, comprising: receiving a control task (S901); randomly selecting a chromosome from an evolution pool according to the control task, and decoding the chromosome to obtain N+1 lumping strategies (S903), wherein the chromosome includes N+1 gene segments, each of the gene segments uniquely corresponds to a lumping strategy, each lumping strategy uniquely corresponds to a pre-set function, the lumping strategy is used to allocate a weight to the pre-set function uniquely corresponding thereto, the evolution pool maintains two or more chromosomes, and N is a positive integer which is greater than or equal to 1; carrying out a lumping operation according to the weights allocated by means of the N+1 lumping strategies to obtain a lumped control output (S905); and generating a control signal according to the lumped control output, wherein the control signal is used to carry out system control (S907). The control system maintains a plurality of chromosomes by means of an evolution pool to maintain and manage control strategies, and a dynamic control method is provided for a complex control environment in reality, so that the self-adaptivity of the control system is enhanced, thereby increasing the control efficiency.

  • Trade credit model with customer balking and asymmetric market information

    Customer balking exists in many industries, and would significantly impact the supply chain management. We consider trade credit, customer balking behavior and market information asymmetry and information sharing in a two-level supply chain. Stackelberg equilibriums are derived in each scenario, respectively. The wholesale price and order quantity at equilibrium decrease (increase) in balking threshold (balking probability) when the production cost is not relatively low. The retailer benefits from the manufacturer's pessimism with information asymmetry, while the optimism with information sharing. However, information asymmetry always harms the manufacturer. We design an information-dependent-credit-limited contract to enforce the retailer to share information.

  • An absolute instrument for determination of the speed of sound in water

    An apparatus for the absolute determination of the sound speed in water based on the time-of-flight technique is described. The time measurement is realized by hardware circuits and the distance measurement by a double-beam plane-mirror interferometer. A highly accurate time chip, with a resolution of approximately 90 ps, is employed for time measurements. The acoustic path length is adjustable and can be measured directly. Two transducers are used for transmitting and receiving ultrasonic signals without reflection. The transducers are immersed in a thermostatic vessel that maintains bath temperature with high stability. The speed of sound in pure water was measured at ambient pressure and at the temperatures 308 K, 303 K, 298 K, and 293 K. The achieved measurement uncertainties are 2 mK for temperature and 0.045 m/s for speed of sound. The results are compared to data from the literature, equation of state models, and measurements by two commercial sensors in the same experiment, showing excellent agreement among them.     Disclosed are a method for processing a message, a terminal and a system. The method comprises: acquiring history message interaction information about a user and first context data associated with the history message interaction information about the user, the history message interaction information about the user comprising history message interaction content and a history message reply condition; determining the message interaction preference of the user according to the history message interaction information about the user and the first context data, the message interaction preference comprising a message reply strategy and/or a message writing style; receiving a current message sent to the user, and acquiring second context data associated with the current message; and performing reply processing on the current message according to the message interaction preference, the current message and the second context data. The method for processing a message, the terminal and the system of the embodiments of the present invention can perform automatic reply processing on a current message by determining the message interaction preference of a user, thereby being capable of enhancing the user experience.

  • Highly-Efficient Dendritic Cable Electrodes for Flexible Supercapacitive Fabric.

    In the search for clothlike wearable energy-storage devices with both high energy density and high power density, metal fibers surrounded by micro metal dendrites, as current collectors, are either rooted inside a thick layer of carbon particles or wrapped with flowerlike nano NiO in a similar manner to the root or stem system of natural plants, to form dendritic cablelike negative or positive electrodes. These dendritic cable electrodes could be further combined or woven into flexible solid-type supercapacitive garland or fabric, together with cotton wires. Benefiting from the ultra large interface of the metal dendrites current collector, it can be charged up to 1.8 V, and give an energy density of 0.1408 mWh cm-2 and a power density of 3.01 mW cm-2, which is capable of directly starting a small electric car with a short and flexible piece of supercapacitor.=20

    The present invention provides a method for generating a network control policy, comprising: acquiring network state data; estimating network state information according to the network state data, and predicting next-time network state information according to the network state information; receiving a data stream currently entering a network, and pre-processing the data stream to obtain a data stream pre-processing result; generating a control action by using a current network control policy according to the network state information, the next-time network state information, and the data stream pre-processing result; controlling the network according to the control action, and obtaining feedback information about the network controlled by the control action; and adjusting the current network control policy in real time according to the feedback information to obtain a next-time network control policy. By adaptively adjusting the network control policy in real time, the network control efficiency is improved.

  • Gravity-assisted synthesis of micro/nano-structured polypyrrole for supercapacitors

    A highly electroactive polypyrrole film (GA-hPPy) with micro/nano-structured horn-like arrays is synthesized by a pulse potentiostatic method with the assistance of gravity. Compared with the conventional cauliflower-like PPy (cPPy) that is synthesized without gravity assistance, GA-hPPy exhibits horn-like morphology in good ordering and uniform size, which leads to remarkably high ionic and electronic conductivity, as confirmed by apparent diffusion coefficient and limit diffusion coefficient. It presents great specific capacitance up to 360 F g(-1) at the scanning rate of 10 mV s(-1) and ultrafast charging/discharging capability, with a specific capacitance of 208 F g(-1) at the scanning rate of 1000 mV s(-1). Its cycling performance is validated to be stable as 88.2% of capacitance held after 10,000 continual cycles. With these distinguishing properties, GA-hPPy is promising to be an excellent active material for supercapacitors.

  • Effects of COMT polymorphism on the cortical processing of vocal pitch regulation.

    Recent evidence has shown that auditory-motor integration for speech production is influenced by cognitive functions such as working memory and attention, suggesting that speech motor control is likely modulated by mechanisms mediated by prefrontal regions. Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) gene plays an important role in dopamine breakdown in the prefrontal cortex and has been associated with a variety of prefrontal cognitive functions. The present event-related potential study investigated the association between COMT ValMet polymorphism and auditory-motor processing of vocal feedback errors. A sample of 131 Chinese young female adults was genotyped for rs4680 and produced sustained vowels while hearing their voice unexpectedly shifted down in pitch by 50 or 200 cents. The behavioral results showed no effects of COMT ValMet on vocal compensations for pitch perturbations. However, individuals with the Met allele produced significantly larger P2 responses to -200 cents perturbations than individuals with the Val/Val genotype. These results suggest the existence of a relationship between COMT ValMet polymorphism and self-monitoring of speech feedback errors, and they provide insights into our understanding of the top-down modulations of speech motor control mediated by prefrontal regions.=20

  • A colorimetric and fluorescence enhancement anion probe based on coumarin compounds

    In this paper, anion probe 1 was designed and synthesized by using phenprocoumon containing acyl hydrazine with p-nitro azo salicylaldehyde reaction Dickson et al. (2008) Dickson et al. (2008) [1]. In the anion probe 1, the nitro moiety is a signaling group and the phenolic hydroxyl moiety is anion binding site. Then the anion probe 1 was characterized by mass spectra (MS) and infrared spectra (IR). The binding properties of the anion probe 1 for anions such as F-, AcO-, H2PO4-, OH-, Cl-, Br- and I- were investigated by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectra and fluorescence spectra Shao et al. (2008) Shao et al. (2008) [2]. Furthermore, the color of anion probe 1 after addition of F-, AcO-, H2PO4- and OH- in DMSO changed from yellow to blue, while no obvious color changes were observed by addition of other tested anions. Accordingly, the anion probe 1 could sense visually F-, AcO-, H2PO4- and OH- without resorting to any spectroscopic instrumentation Amendola et al. (2010) Amendola et al. (2010) [3].
