  • NEEDLE TRAJECTORY PREDICTION FOR TARGET BIOPSY

A target biopsy system employing an ultrasound probe (20), a target biopsy needle (30) and a ultrasound guide controller (44). In operation, the ultrasound probe (20) projects an ultrasound plane intersecting an anatomical region (e.g. a liver). The target biopsy needle (30) include two or more ultrasound receivers (31) for sensing the ultrasound plane as the target biopsy needle (30) is inserted into the anatomical region. In response to the ultrasound receiver(s) (31) sensing the ultrasound plane, the ultrasound guide controller (44) predicts a biopsy trajectory of the target biopsy needle (30) within the anatomical region relative to the ultrasound plane. The prediction indicates the biopsy trajectory is either within the ultrasound plane (i.e., an in-plane biopsy trajectory) or outside of the ultrasound plane (i.e., an out-of-plane biopsy trajectory).

  • LOW-TEMPERATURE CATALYTIC PERFORMANCE OF NANOSTRUCTURED Ti–Ni–O PREPARED BY MODIFIED SOL-GEL METHOD

WU, YING   WU, TINGHUA   HE, YIMING   WENG, WEIZHENG   WAN, HUILIN

Nanosized Ti-Ni-O catalysts prepared by a modified sol-gel method had been investigated in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane and propane to the corresponding alkene. The best yield is obtained over the 9.1wt% Ti-Ni-O catalyst. The results of catalyst characterization indicated that there is strong interaction between TiO(2) and NiO. It is observed that a decline in temperature for low-temperature oxygen desorption and an augmentation in reduction difficulty of the catalysts would result in poor activity and enhanced alkene selectivity, respectively, over the Ti-Ni-O catalysts in the oxidative dehydrogenation reactions.

  • A novel calix[4]arene-based dimeric-cholesteryl derivative: synthesis, gelation and unusual properties

Wu, Ying   Liu, Kaiqiang   Chen, Xiangli   Chen, Yongping   Zhang, Shaofei   Peng, Junxia   Fang, Yu

A calix[4]arene-based dimeric-chotesteryl derivative with naphthalene in the linkers (C2N2C) was designed and synthesized. The gelation behaviors of the compound in 36 liquids were evaluated. It was demonstrated that C2N2C could gel 16 of the liquids tested, which include both polar and apolar liquids. SEM and AFM studies revealed that the morphologies of the gel networks are dependent on the concentrations of C2N2C and the nature of the liquids under study. Importantly, rheological studies revealed that the gel of the compound in benzene possesses sensitive, fast and fully reversible thixotropic property. More importantly, the T-gel of the C2N2C/benzene gel could be at least more than 60 degrees higher than the boiling point of benzene when the gelator concentration is greater than 6% (w/v), a result never reported before. CD measurements revealed the chiral nature of the assemblies of the gel networks. Further investigation by AFM measurements confirmed the right-hand helical structures of the gel networks of C2N2C/benzene gel. As anticipated, hydrogen bonding and pi-pi stacking are the two main driving forces for the formation of the gels.

  • The Research on the Optimization of Transportation Routing for Fresh Food by Improved Genetic Algorithm

Wu, Ying   Meng, Zi Bo   Peng, Min

In this paper, we research the problem of transportation routing for fresh food. We analyzed the limit of soft and hard time windows in transportation and formed the time window with fuzzy appointment based on customer satisfaction. The optimization of transportation routes mathematical model was structured. The improved genetic algorithm has been applied to matlab progam. This progam has found the optimal solution in the model. We used a case to prove the feasibility of the model and the algorithm. It has twelve customers and one DC need to transport services. The mathematical model is to simulate the transport of fresh food within realistic. The transportation routing is designed to improve customer satisfaction and reduce transportation costs.

  • Lasing threshold for whispering-gallery-mode microsphere lasers

    Wu, Ying   Leung, P.

The analytical expression for the lasing threshold for whispering-gallery-mode microsphere lasers under the strong-coupling condition is obtained by solving a quasi-three-level quantized model. It explicitly displays the dependence of the lasing threshold on the cavity radius, the homogeneous linewidth, the quality factors and linewidths of the relevant cavity modes

  • METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DIFFERENTIATED COMMUNICATION CHANNEL ROBUSTNESS IN A MULTI-TONE TRANSCEIVER

A multi-tone transceiver including: a channel controller and a plurality of components forming a transmit path and a receive path. The channel controller configured to determine bit-loading for each successive symbol or tone set based on a 1st noise margin target for a first subset of tones in each tone set dedicated to transport of a robust communications channel (RCC) and based on a 2nd noise margin target less than the 1st noise margin target for remaining tones in each tone set dedicated to a standard communications channel (SCC). The plurality of components forming the transmit and receive paths are responsive to the channel controller to select for data modulated on a given tone at least one of smaller constellations and higher gain scaling levels when the given tone corresponds to an RCC tone as compared to an SCC tone, whereby the first set of tones dedicated to the RCC exhibit greater immunity to noise variations than the remaining tones dedicated to the SCC.

  • A New Approach in Testing and Evaluating Micro-Cracking Performance of Electroplated Diamond Film (EDF)

Wu, Ying   Sun, Ming Qing   Li, Zhuo Qiu

Many efforts have been directed to the micro structure and performance evaluation of Electroplated Diamond Film. The indentation method has become extensively utilized in the evaluation of materials' mechanical. Nano indentation devices, such as MTS-XP, are very useful, but on the other hand, are not affordable for many research institutions. This paper presents an effective and economic method for testing and evaluating micro-cracking performance of Electroplated Diamond Film on Instron 5848 MicroTester by considering the relative hardness values, and the need to evaluate the maximum strength for brittle materials in practical applications. The design of the test system, the evaluation methods, the test results, and the discussions are presented.

  • Dynamics of the quantized radiation field in a cavity vibrating at the fundamental frequency

    Wu, Ying   Chu, M.-C.   Leung, P. T.

We present a method to solve exactly a one-dimensional model of quantized radiations in a cavity oscillating in the fundamental resonance, using the effective Hamiltonian derived by C. K. Law [Phys. Rev. A 49, 433 (1994)]. With this method. we derived explicit analytical expressions for the diagonalized Hamiltonian, the time-varying annihilation, creation, and photon number operators for the radiation field, which completely specify the dynamics of the system.
