  • Reversible Resistance Switching of GeTi Thin Film Used for Non-Volatile Memory

Shen, Jie   Xu, Cheng   Liu, Bo   Song, Zhitang   Wu, Liangcai   Feng, Songlin   Chen, Bomy

Reversible resistance switching behavior was observed in a simple proto-type non-volatile memory cell using GeTi thin film. The film prepared by magnetic sputtering at room temperature was amorphous. The reversible switching phenomenon appeared when applying a property external bias voltage on the cell. The ratio of the high resistance state (off-state) to the low resistance state (on-state) was 10-10(2). Because of the electric-pulse-induced resistance switching property of GeTi and its simple binary constitution compatible with the semiconductor industry, the application prospect of GeTi as a storage medium for data recording can be predicted.

  • Sparse Spectral Approximations of High-Dimensional Problems Based on Hyperbolic Cross

    Shen, Jie   Wang, Li-Lian

Hyperbolic cross approximations by some classical orthogonal polynomials/functions in both bounded and unbounded domains are considered in this paper. Optimal error estimates in proper anisotropic weighted Korobov spaces for both regular hyperbolic cross approximations and optimized hyperbolic cross approximations are established. These fundamental approximation results indicate that spectral methods based on hyperbolic cross approximations can be effective for treating certain high-dimensional problems and will serve as basic tools for analyzing sparse spectral methods in high dimensions.

  • PARTIAL RESPONSE DECISION FEEDBACK EQUALIZER WITH DISTRIBUTED CONTROL

A multi-phase partial response equalizer is disclosed. The equalizer includes receiver circuitry to receive a data symbol over N bit intervals and to generate N sets of samples in response to N clock signals having different phases. A first storage stage is provided, including storage elements to store the sets of samples during a common clock interval. First and second selection circuits are respectively coupled to an input and an output of the first storage stage. An output storage stage is coupled to the second selection circuit to store an output sample. The first and second selection circuits, over multiple clock intervals, cooperatively select the output sample from one of the sets of samples based on a most recent previous output sample.

  • Spectral Approximation of the Helmholtz Equation with High Wave Numbers

    Shen, Jie   Wang, Li-Lian

A complete error analysis is performed for the spectral-Galerkin approximation of a model Helmholtz equation with high wave numbers. The analysis presented in this paper does not rely on the explicit knowledge of continuous/discrete Green's functions and does not require any mesh condition to be satisfied. Furthermore, new error estimates are also established for multidimensional radial and spherical symmetric domains. Illustrative numerical results in agreement with the theoretical analysis are presented.

  • Peripheral Refraction With and Without Contact Lens Correction

Shen, Jie   Clark, Christopher A.   Soni, P. Sarita   Thibos, Larry N.

Purpose. Peripheral refractive error degrades the quality of retinal images and has been hypothesized to be a stimulus for the development of refractive error. The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in refractive error across the horizontal visual field produced by contact lenses (CLs) and to quantify the effect of CLs on peripheral image blur. Methods. A commercial Shack-Hartmann aberrometer measured ocular wavefront aberrations in 5 steps across the central 60 of visual field along the horizontal meridian before and after CLs correction. Wavefront refractions for peripheral lines-of-sight were based on the full elliptical pupil encountered in peripheral measurements. Curvature of field is the change in peripheral spherical equivalent relative to the eye's optical axis. Results. Hyperopic curvature of field in the naked eye increases with increasing amounts central myopic refractive error as predicted by Atchison (2006). For an eccentricity of E degrees, field curvature is approximately E percent of foveal refractive error. Rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses changed field curvature in the myopic direction twice as much as soft CLs (SCLs). Both of these effects varied with CLs power. For all lens powers, SCL cut the degree of hyperopic field curvature in half whereas RGP lenses nearly eliminated field curvature. The benefit of reduced field curvature was partly offset by increased oblique astigmatism. The net reduction of retinal blur because of CLs is approximately constant across the visual field. Conclusions. Both SCL and RGP lenses reduced the degree of hyperopic field curvature present in myopic eyes, with RGP lenses having greater effect. The tradeoff between field curvature and off-axis astigmatism with RGP lenses may limit their effectiveness for control of myopia progression. These results suggest that axial growth mechanisms that depend on retinal image quality will be affected more by RGP than by SCL lenses. (Optom Vis Sci 2010; 87:642-655)

  • The level and influencing factors of quality of life in patients with brachial plexus injury

    Shen, Jie   Wang, Zhi-Wen

Abstract Purpose To investigate the overall quality of life level and identify influencing factors in patients with traumatic brachial plexus injury. Methods One hundred three patients with brachial plexus injury were assessed using the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) and Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACESII-CV) questionnaires. Results The overall quality of life score from patients with brachial plexus injury was 65.78 ± 15.2. The scores for the physical, psychological and environmental factors were significantly lower than the norm (Ps < 0.05). Regression analysis showed that age, injury located ipsilateral to the dominant hand, upper limb function score, score of family intimacy and family income were all factors influencing the of quality of life. Conclusions A brachial plexus injury significantly compromises an individual's quality of life. Multiple factors influence this quality, which should be targeted to augment the physical and psychological care provided.

  • Error Analysis for Mapped Legendre Spectral and Pseudospectral Methods

    Shen, Jie   Wang, Li-Lian

A general framework is introduced to analyze the approximation properties of mapped Legendre polynomials and of interpolations based on mapped Legendre-Gauss-Lobatto points. Optimal error estimates featuring explicit expressions on the mapping parameters for several popular mappings are derived. These results not only play an important role in numerical analysis of mapped Legendre spectral and pseudospectral methods for differential equations but also provide quantitative criteria for the choice of parameters in these mappings.

  • GRAPHENE OXIDE FILM WITH CONTROLLABLE INTERLAYER DISTANCE AND PREPARATION METHOD AND USE THEREOF

Provided are a graphene oxide film with a controllable interlayer distance and a preparation method and use thereof. The preparation method comprises the following step: infiltrating a graphene oxide film in an aqueous solution A of a salt until same swells, so as to obtain the graphene oxide film with a controllable interlayer distance. The aqueous solution A of a salt is a solution containing a metal cation, and the concentration of the metal cation is 0.25-2.5 mol/L. The method can precisely control the size of an interlayer channel of the graphene oxide film within a range of 11-14 Å, and the size is precisely changed at an amplitude of 0.6-1 Å. The graphene oxide film with a controllable interlayer distance obtained by the method has an excellent mechanical strength, and after undergoing a penetration experiment for 5 h, same still remains in an intact film state. The method has a simple preparation process and is easy to operate, makes a graphene oxide film have the effect of screening and filtering smaller particles, and has good application prospects.
