    We develop an analytical method for calculating the burst loss probabilities in a tandem Optical Burst Switched (OBS) network with a bursty arrival process, depicted by an Interrupted Poison Process (IPP). The OBS network is modeled as a tandem network of loss nodes which is analyzed using single-node decomposition, whereby each node is studied in isolation as an IPP/M/W/W. For this, we need the departure process from an IPP/M/W/W which we obtain using binomial moment techniques. Performance evaluation of an OBS network shows that our method gives results which are closer to simulation results than a Poisson arrival process. (C) 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

  • Topological basis associated with B–M–W algebra: Two-spin-1/2 realization

    In this letter, we study the two-spin-1/2 realization for the Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (B-M-W) algebra and the corresponding Yang-Baxter R(theta,phi) matrix. Based on the two-spin-1/2 realization for the B-M-W algebra, the three-dimensional topological space, which is spanned by topological basis, is investigated. By means of such topological basis realization, the four-dimensional Yang-Baxter R(theta, phi) can be reduced to Wigner D-J function with J = 1. The entanglement and Berry phase in the spectral parameter space are also explored. The results show that one can obtain a set of entangled basis via Yang-Baxter R(theta,phi) matrix acting on the standard basis, and the entanglement degree is maximum when the R-1(theta,phi) turns to the braiding operator.   • Structural and diffuse reflectance study of Ca1?xCoxMO4 (M=W, Mo)

    Precipitation and combustion routes have been followed in the synthesis of Co substituted scheelite phases of the formula Ca1-xCoxMO4 (M = W, Mo). Phase analysis by powder XRD techniques indicated that precipitation method resulted in pure tetragonal scheelite phase formation in the case of compositions Ca1-xCoxMO4 (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) and Ca1-xCoxMO4 (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.5). While in combustion method, pure tetragonal structure phase was obtained only for the composition with x = 0.1 in both the cases. As evidenced from the SEM analysis that the precipitation method lead to the formation of microballs and the combustion route yielded powder of dispersed particles in the case of Ca0.9Co0.1WO4 and Ca0.9Co0.1 MoO4. Similarly, the method of synthesis influenced the color of the above two phases. The colorimetric data revealed the difference in the color hues of the phases with increase in cobalt content in both W and Mo series. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

    Lubricating nanoparticles: The effect of doping semiconductor hollow closed-fullerene-like nanoparticles of MoS2 and WS2 has been overlooked to date. Rhenium doping of these nanoparticles leads to a marked increase in the nanoparticle's conductivity, reduced agglomeration, and a great reduction in friction and wear (see picture) that approaches superlubricity.
