  • Identifying mantle carbonatite metasomatism through Os–Sr–Mg isotopes in Tibetan ultrapotassic rocks

    Highlights • A combined use of Os, Sr, and Mg isotopes on the Tibetan ultrapotassic rocks. • High 187Os/188Os in ultrapotassic rocks corroborate effect of crustal contamination. • Low δ26Mg can be observed in the ultrapotassic rocks with mantle-like 187Os/188Os. • Dolomite-related metasomatism is manifested by correlations between δ26Mg and Hf/Sm. • Spatial variations of Hf/Sm and δ26Mg indicate the Neo-Tethyan seafloor subduction. Abstract Mantle-derived magmas at convergent plate boundaries provide unique insights into the nature of materials subducted to and recycled from depths. Here we present a study of Os–Sr–Mg isotopes on the Oligocene–Miocene ultrapotassic rocks aimed at better understanding sediment subduction and recycling beneath southern Tibet. New isotopic data confirm that ultrapotassic rocks in southern Tibet are of mantle origin, but underwent crustal contamination as evidenced by the variably high 187Os/188Os that obviously deviates from normal mantle reservoir. Still some samples with mantle-like 187Os/188Os exhibit δ26Mg significantly lower than mantle and crustal lithologies, suggesting that the isotopically light Mg may not result from crustal contamination but retain specific fingerprint of carbonate-related metasomatism in mantle sources. Mantle carbonatite metasomatism is manifested by the inverse δ26Mg–87Sr/86Sr correlations, as well as the depletion of high field strength elements relative to rare earth elements and the enrichment of CaO in ultrapotassic rocks. The positive co-variations between δ26Mg and Hf/Sm defined by those low-187Os/188Os ultrapotassic rocks provide evidence for the potential of recycled dolomites to modify mantle Mg isotopic composition. The correlated spatial variations of δ26Mg and Hf/Sm are interpreted to reflect carbonatitic metasomatism associated with the northward subduction of the Neo-Tethyan oceanic slab and its profound influence on postcollisional ultrapotassic magmatism.     The Composites are difficult machining materials which widely used in aerospace industry due to their excellent mechanical properties. Tool wear and delamination are considered the major concern in manufacture the parts and assembly. The thrust force and torque affect the tool life and delamination mostly. This paper investigated the drilling force and torque of carbon fibred composite with carbide drilling tools and half core drilling tool. The experiments were carried out under air cooling cutting conditions and the drilling force using carbide tool and half core tool were compared and the experimental results indicated that the drilling forces using half core drill were smaller than that of using carbide tool.

  • Improved mechanical performance of PBO fiber-reinforced bismaleimide composite using mixed O2/Ar plasma

    The mixed O 2/Ar plasma was employed to enhance mechanical properties of the PBO/bismaleimide composite. The interlaminar shear strength was improved to 61.6 MPa or by 38.1%, but the composite brittleness increased. The plasma gas compositions exhibited notable effects on the interfacial adhesion strength. XPS results suggested that the mixed plasma presented higher activation effects on the surface chemical compositions than pure gas plasmas and a larger number of oxygen atoms and hydrophilic groups were introduced on the fiber surface due to the synergy effect, but the synergy effect was considerably performed only within the O 2 percentage range of 40-60%. The fibers surface was increasingly etched with growing the O 2 contents in the plasma, deteriorating the fibers tensile strength. SEM micrographs demonstrated that the composite shear fracture changed from debonding to cohesive failure in the matrices, and the improving mechanisms were discussed. [All rights reserved Elsevier].

  • Characterization of NADPH–cytochrome P450 reductase gene from the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera

    A complete cDNA encoding the NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase (haCPR) and its genomic sequence from the cotton bollworm Helicovema armigera were cloned and sequenced. The open reading frame of haCPR codes for a protein of 687 amino acid residues with a calculated molecular mass of 77.4 kDa. The haCPR gene spans over 11 kb and its coding region is interrupted by 11 introns. haCPR is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues and at various stages of development. Escherichia coil produced haCPR enzyme exhibited catalytic activity for NADPH-dependent reduction of cytochrome c, following Michaelis-Menten kinetics. The functionality of CPR was further demonstrated by its capacity to support cytochrome P450 (e.g. haCYP9A14 and chicken CYP1A5) mediated O-dealkylation activity of alkoxyresorufins. The flavoprotein-specific inhibitor (diphenyleneiodonium chloride, DPI) showed a potent inhibition to haCPR activity (IC50 = 1.69 mu M). Inhibitory effect of secondary metabolites in the host plants (tannic acid, quercetin and gossypol) on CPR activity (with an IC50 value ranged from 15 to 90 mu M) was also observed. The method comprises: obtaining geographic information and a sharing intention corresponding to a marked position on a panoramic map; arranging the geographic information and the sharing intention in a pre-set sharing link; and sending the sharing link via a pre-set system interface corresponding to a target application. Thus, a position can be shared by means of marking on a panoramic map, and description information can be added with respect to the shared position, so that a sharing intention and a shared position can be visually reflected, and the practicability of position sharing is improved.
