    The present invention relates to an ion exchange membrane and a manufacturing method therefor and, more specifically, to an ion exchange membrane comprising a cross-linked sulfonated triblock copolymer and carbon nanotube, which is utilizable in a redox flow energy storage device, etc. due to high ion conductivity, mechanical strength and ion selectivity. The ion exchange membrane of the present invention has superior ion selectivity and mechanical strength and thus can greatly improve the performance of a fuel battery, etc. when applied thereto.

  • Morphology and Conductivity in Ionic Liquid Incorporated Sulfonated Block Copolymers

    We have explored the link between morphologies and conductivities for ionic liquids (ILs) incorporated block copolymer electrolytes by combining small-angle X-ray scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and impedance spectroscopy. The block copolymer electrolytes investigated in present study are a series of partially sulfonated poly(styrenesulfonate-b-methylbutylene) (S(n)MB(m)) copolymers with different molecular weights and sulfonation levels (SLs). Imidazolium-based Its are selectively doped into hydrophilic domains of S(n)MB(m) copolymers, and various morphologies have been observed as a function of the amount of absorbed ILs and SLs in S(n)MB(m) copolymers. We have demonstrated that the morphologies of ILs impregnated S(n)MB(m) copolymers are sensitive function of kinds of counteranions in IL, yielding remarkable discrepancy in conductivities. When the morphology of sample is appeared to be a lamellar structure, significant reduction in through-plane conductivity value was detected due to the nonrandom orientation of microdomains. In contrast, hexagonally perforated lamellar forming samples exhibit the highest conductivities in both through-plane and in-plane directions on account of the better connectivity of ionic domains along the perforated hydrophilic phases. Once the morphology effects were vanished by employing highly sulfonated S(n)MB(m) copolymers, it has been revealed that the conductivities of Its incorporated copolymers are closely related to the polarity of ILs as confirmed by solvation dynamics study.

  • Antiestrogens and the Formation of DNA Damage in Rats:? A Comparison

    Tamoxifen (TAM) has been used as an agent for the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. However, long-term treatment of TAM in women increases the risk of developing endometrial cancer. The secondary cancer may be due to the genotoxicity of TAM. To find safer alternatives, four selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), 4-hydroxytamoxifen (4-OHTAM), toremifene (TOR), raloxifene (RAL), and ICI 182,780, were administered to rats with an equimolar dose of TAM [54 mu mol/kg (20 mg/kg)/day, p.o. for 7 days]. To evaluate the genotoxicity of each SERM, the presence of bulky DNA adducts was determined by P-32-postlabeling/polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and P-32-postlabeling/high-performance liquid chromatography. The formation of 7,8-dihydro-8-oxodeoxyguanosine (8-oxodG) was analyzed as a marker of typical oxidative damage, using liquid chromatography electrospray tandem mass spectrometry. Among the SERMs, bulky DNA adducts were detected in the livers of rats treated with TAM; the total amount of TAM-DNA adducts was 26.1 adducts/10(7) nucleotides. However, with a detection limit of similar to 2 adducts/10(9) nucleotides, no bulky DNA adducts were observed with 4-OHTAM, TOR, RAL, or ICI 182,780. In addition, no significant increase of hepatic 8-oxodG lesions was detected in rats treated with any of the antiestrogens. Therefore, TOR, RAL, and ICI 182,780 are likely to be less genotoxic than TAM.

  • Proton Hopping and Diffusion Behavior of Sulfonated Block Copolymers Containing Ionic Liquids

    We have investigated the dependence of proton hopping and diffusion behavior of nanostructured poly(styrenesulfonate-b-methylbutylene) (PSS-b-PMB) block copolymers containing imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) on the type and the composition of ILs. Pulsed-field gradient spin-echo nuclear magnetic resonance experiments suggest that fast proton hopping is facilitated by higher imidazolium contents in the ILs. On the contrary, the alkyl substituent at the protic position of imidazole results in a 2-fold reduction in the self-diffusion coefficient for proton hopping, becoming comparable to vehicle diffusion in the temperature window examined. The anion of ILs makes a significant impact on the activation barrier for proton conduction, leading to conductivities differing by a few orders of magnitude, depending on the type of anion in the ILs. Notably, a high proton transference number of 0.81 was achieved for the IL-containing PSS-b-PMB copolymers (compared to the low value of 0.52 for neat ILs) by optimizing the composition and the type of ILs. This increase is attributed to specific interactions between the ILs and the polymer matrix, affecting the nature of hydrogen bonds and ionic aggregate structures. This study provides valuable insights into the factors affecting the proton transport efficiency of IL-containing polymers, enabling the design of new polymer electrolytes characterized by both fast proton conduction and high proton transference numbers.

    According to the present invention, provided is a core-shell structured pressure sensitive destructible microcapsule containing scrubbing agents, comprising: a scrub core (A) comprising disintegrable or non-disintegrable scrubbing particles or granules; and a pressure sensitive destructible wall layer (B) encompassing the same, wherein the pressure sensitive destructible wall layer (B) comprises a wall-forming material, a binder and optional solid fine particles.
