    Let C be a smooth irreducible projective curve of genus g and L a line bundle of degree d generated by a linear subspace V of H-0 (L) of dimension n+1. We prove a conjecture of D. C. Butler on the semistability of the kernel of the evaluation map V circle times O-C -> L and obtain new results on the stability of this kernel. The natural context for this problem is the theory of coherent systems on curves and our techniques involve wall crossing formulae in this theory.

  • Charter School Entry and School Choice: The Case of Washington, D. C.

    We develop and estimate a structural equilibrium model of charter school entry and compe- tition. In the model, households choose among charter, public and private schools. We model the entry, exit and relocation of charters as well as the behavior of the regulatory agency that authorizes charter entry and continued operations. The regulator makes decisions based on charters' expected equilibrium demand. We estimate the model using school-level panel data for Washington, D. C. According to our estimates, household preferences over school charac- teristics are quite heterogeneous by race and poverty status, and schools vary substantially in school quality, with charter schools surpassing public schools in the most disadvantaged areas of D. C. We use our parameter estimates to investigate the potential e¤ects of changes in the institutional and demographic environment on charter entry, student sorting across schools, and the distribution of student achievement.

  • Impact of Welfare Measures on the Employees of Mutha Group, M. I. D. C., Satara

    Present study is an attempt made to identify the welfare measures provided and impact of the same on the employees of Mutha Group (Automobile Sector). For the purpose of study, diagnostic inferential research type is used and data is gathered from 150 employees out of 232 permanent employees of the organization covering almost all the five units of Mutha Group with stratified random sampling technique. A structured schedule is used to know the opinions of the employees on each statement and data is analyzed through the statistical techniques like percentage, mean, standard deviation, Mann Whitney U and Chi Square Eta. Various literatures of Indian authors from international journals in the time period of 2011-13 are also revised for the purpose of the study. The study established that the statutory welfare measures are satisfactorily provided whereas there is no proper system as far as non-statutory welfare measures are considered. It also reveals that there is positive impact of welfare facilities on the employees of Mutha Group.

  • Digital Simulation of B. L. D. C Motor Drive System with Energy Recovery Snubber

    PM motor drives require a rotor position sensor to properly perform commutation and current control. To reduce cost and improve reliability, such position sensors may be eliminated. Sensor less control is desired for some applications where those sensors cannot function reliably because of the harsh environments. The BLDC motor provides an attractive solution for sensor less operation this project presents a low-cost position sensor less control scheme for brushless dc motors. The cost saving is further increased by coupling the sensing circuit with a single-chip micro controller for speed control. In addition, a non-dissipative Snubber is used in the circuit. A non-dissipative Snubber consists of a capacitor connected in parallel with a diode. Since a resistor is not present in this Snubber, there will be no dissipation. The capacitor will store the energy. Hence same output can be obtained for reduced input. This improves motor efficiency. The circuit is simulated using MATLAB and implemented using embedded controller. Both simulation and hardware results are verified.

Also to investigate if a cervical polyp is an indicator of endometrial pathology and to assess the necessity of performing dilatation and curettage (D&C).
