Anaerobic corrosion caused by an obligate anaerobic bacteria, Clostridium pasteurianum, was investigated. Corrosion rates were measured against various controls. It was determined that the metal sample experiences a higher corrosion rate than could be attributed to free H 2 or other metabolic products and thus biotic processes contribute to the overall corrosion. Corrosion products were identified using surface analytical techniques.
