Abstract(summary):

To realize precise flow control of molten steel in the continuous casting mold, we developed a real-time flow estimation algorithm based on a three-dimensional transient model. Conventional model-based estimation suffers from the estimation error caused by disturbances, e.g., submerged entry nozzle (SEN) clogging. To incorporate the influence of the disturbances into the model calculation and reduce the estimation error, the developed algorithm adjusts the virtual external force at the SEN ports in the model. As a result of the simulation experiment, the asymmetrical flow caused by the nozzle clogging was successfully estimated, and the estimation error of the flow ratio of the left and right SEN ports was only 3 pct.
