Abstract(summary):

Biogeochemical cycling of lead (Pb) within the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal was examined in terms of the dissolved and particulate Pb concentration profiles. The relative distribution of Pb between the dissolved and particulate phases were found identical to the two regions, with elevated surface concentrations derived from anthropogenic sources and low concentrations at depth due to particle scavenging. Higher industrial emissions from the Indian west coast resulted to 2.5 fold enrichment of Pb throughout the water column of the Arabian Sea in comparison to the Bay of Bengal.
