A novel phase shifter used to adjust the output phase of high-power microwave (HPM) is investigated. It is noticed that the waveguide wavelength and propagation constant of the TE10 mode are functions of the wide side dimension of the rectangular waveguide, and therefore the output phase of the microwave can be adjusted by changing the wide side dimension. In this paper, an HPM waveguide phase shifter with the wide side dimension adjustable is designed and analyzed numerically. No dielectric or metal pins are involved in this phase shifter, and the microwave propagates in the TE10 mode. In addition, it has a high power-handling capacity. Results show that the phase shifter could operate at a frequency of 15.2 GHz, and the phase of the wave can be adjustable in a range of 0 degrees-360 degrees with a transmit efficiency over 96%. The dimensions of the phase shifter are 13.8 mm x 7.9 mm with a phase shifting length of 139 mm. This novel phase shifter is of interest to HPM applications and higher microwave band.
