Abstract(summary):

Abstract

This paper studies a feed structure suitable for connecting a millimeter-wave low sidelobe dielectric antenna with an NRD guide. Specifically, an NRD guide, a rectangular waveguide, a circular waveguide, and a microstrip patch antenna are considered as a primary radiator. It is verified by simulation and experiments that a low sidelobe level and a high gain can be realized if an NRD guide, a rectangular waveguide, or a circular waveguide is used as a feed. For instance, when a dielectric lens antenna with a diameter of 32 mm is used, extremely good characteristics are obtained at 60 GHz including a maximum gain of 24.9 dBi, a sidelobe level of less than −27 dB, and a 3-dB beam width angle of 9°. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
