Journal:
Journal of Crop and Weed

Issue Date:
2013

Abstract(summary):

A field experiment was conducted in Chiplima, Odisha [Orissa], India, during the rabi season of 2011-12 to evaluate the efficacy of the following treatments against weeds infesting onion (cv. Agrifound Dark Red): (T1) oxyfluorfen 23.5 EC (2 ml/litre) applied before planting and at 30 days after sowing (DAS); (T2) oxyfluorfen 23.5 EC (2 ml/litre) applied before planting and quizalofop ethyl 5 EC [quizalofop] (3.5 ml/litre) applied at 30 DAS; (T3) oxyfluorfen 23.5 EC (2 ml/litre) and quizalofop ethyl 5 EC (3.5 ml/litre) applied before planting and at 30 DAS; (T4) pendimethalin 30 EC (5 ml/litre) applied before planting and at 30 DAS; (T5) pendimethalin 30 EC (5 ml/litre) applied before planting and quizalofop ethyl 5 EC (3.5 ml/litre) applied at 30 DAS; (T6) pendimethalin 30 EC (5 ml/litre) and quizalofop ethyl 5 EC (3.5 ml/litre) applied before planting and at 30 DAS; and (T7) oxyfluorfen 23.5 EC (2 ml/litre) applied before planting and hand weeding at 40-60 DAT. Plant height was greatest (60.65 cm) for T4. The highest number of leaves per plant (12.17), marketable bulb yield (182.37 quintal/ha) and total bulb yield (206.92 quintal/ha) were highest for T7. T6 resulted in the lowest weed density (297.33/m 2).[1.0 quintal= 100.0 kg].
