The Edwin B. Newman Graduate Research Award is sponsored jointly by Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, and the APA. The award is presented annually to the psychology graduate student who submits the best research paper that was published or presented at a national, regional, or state psychological association conference during the past calendar year. The Edwin B. Newman Graduate Research Award was established in 1979. The award was established to recognize young researchers at the beginning of their professional lives and to commemorate both the 50th anniversary of Psi Chi and the 100th anniversary of psychology as a science (dating from the founding of Wundt's laboratory). The 2013 recipient is Hannah Williamson, who received the award for an outstanding research paper that examines how interventions intended to prevent relationship distress are expected to enhance relationship satisfaction and therefore reduce the need for later couples therapy. A set of integers A is called a B(2)[g] set if every integer m has at most g representations of the form m = a + a', with a <= a' and a, a' is an element of A. We obtain a new lower bound for F(g, n), the largest cardinality of a B(2)[g] set in {1, ..., n}. More precisely, we prove that lim inf(n ->infinity)F(g, n)/root gn >= 2/root pi - epsilon(g) where epsilon(g) -> 0 when g -> infinity. We show it connection between this problem and mother one discussed by Schinzel and Schmidt, which can be considered its continuous version.
