  • Synthesis, structure, and catalytic activity of a new chiral NHC–iridium(III) complex

Chen, Liang   Liu, Yuqiao   Hou, Guohua   Song, Haibin   Zi, Guofu

The new chiral NHC-iridium complex 3 has been prepared in CH3CN from the reaction between [Ir(COD)Cl](2), NaOAc, KI, and dibenzimidazolium salt 2 which is derived from (S)-2,2'-diamino-6,6'-dimethyl-1,1'-biphenyl. Complex 3 has been characterized by various spectroscopic techniques, elemental analyses, and X-ray diffraction analysis. It has a distorted-octahedral IrC2N2IH core structure, and shows good catalytic activity for the asymmetric hydrosilylation of arylmethyl ketones, leading to 1-arylethanol with moderate ee values. • LARGE-AREA AND SMOOTH STITCHING METHOD FOR HUANGMEI CROSS-STITCH DOUBLE-SIDED EMBROIDERY

A large-area and smooth stitching method for Huangmei cross-stitch double-sided embroidery. It is necessary to perform embroidering having a total of four passes back and forth on each row of horizontally arranged small squares. The method specifically comprises the following steps: the first pass, "/" lines are embroidered on the back side of even-numbered small squares and "\" lines are embroidered on the front side of odd-numbered small squares; the second pass, "/" lines are embroidered on the back side of the odd-numbered small squares and "\" lines are embroidered on the front side of the even-numbered small squares; the third pass, "\" lines are embroidered on the back side of the even-numbered small squares and "/" lines are embroidered on the front side of the odd-numbered small squares; the fourth pass, "/" lines are embroidered on the front side of the even-numbered small squares and "\" lines are embroidered on the back side of the odd-numbered small squares. The stitching method simultaneously completes continuous embroidering of the lines of "X"s on both the front and back sides of a row of small squares. The method has few needle-movement steps and a consistent needle-movement direction, the method is smooth, and an embroidered product is level and aesthetically pleasing. The method is suitable for double-sided embroidering of a piece of embroidery having a large area and concentrated blocks of colour.

  • Evaluation of a pyramid die extrusion for a hollow aluminum profile using FE simulation

Chen, Liang   Zhao, Guoqun   Yu, Junquan   Zhang, Wendong

The pyramid die extrusion for a hollow aluminum profile was analyzed to investigate the potential of such innovative dies. For this purpose, the pyramid and conventional porthole dies were respectively designed for a given hollow aluminum profile. And the extrusion process was comprehensively studied by performing different types of finite element simulation, such as the analysis of steady state, transient state and billet skin tracking. The effects of pyramid angle on the evaluation parameters of extrusion, such as extrusion load, material flow, exit temperature, length of transverse weld, quality of longitudinal weld, back end defect and die stress were overall analyzed and compared with the conventional porthole die. Through this study, the advantages and shortcomings of pyramid die were well concluded, which should be important information for die designers and makers.
