  • FABRICATION OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD STRUCTURES

A method of fabricating components for a three-dimensional circuit structure includes providing a printed circuit board (PCB) having a top surface, an opposing bottom surface, and an end section. A first angled channel is formed in the top surface at the end section, with the first angled channel extending to an edge of the end section and dividing the end section into a first end portion and a second end portion. The PCB material is removed from the top surface at the first end portion to form a first support member having an upper surface at a preselected distance below the top surface. A second angled channel is formed in the bottom surface at the end section of the first PCB, with the second angled channel extending to the edge of the end section and being adjacent to the first support member. The PCB material is removed from the bottom surface at the second end portion to form a second support member having an upper surface that is contiguous with the top surface of the PCB. A ramp portion extends between the first support member and the second support member.

  • Synthesis of Strongly Fluorescent Molybdenum Disulfide Nanosheets for Cell-Targeted Labeling

Wang, Nan   Wei, Fang   Qi, Yuhang   Li, Hongxiang   Lu, Xin   Zhao, Guoqiang   Xu, Qun

MoS2 nanosheets with polydispersity of the lateral dimensions from natural mineral molybdenite have been prepared in the emulsions microenvironment built by the water/surfactant/CO2 system. The size, thickness, and atomic structure are characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and laser-scattering particle size analysis. Meanwhile, by the analysis of photoluminescence spectroscopy and microscope, the MoS2 nanosheets with smaller lateral dimensions exhibit extraordinary photoluminescence properties different from those with relatively larger lateral dimensions. The discovery of the excitation dependent photoluminescence for MoS2 nanosheets makes them potentially of interests for the applications in optoelectronics and biology. Moreover, we demonstrate that the fabricated MoS2 nanosheets can be a nontoxic fluorescent label for cell-targeted labeling application.

  • Effect of Oxygen Partial Pressure on Phase Equilibria and Liquidus in CaO-Al2O3-FeOx System

WANG, Nan   HUANG, Wei-jun   CHEN, Shuai-chao   CHEN, Min

A high temperature equilibration experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of oxygen partial pressure on the phase equilibria and liquidus in CaO-Al2O3-FeOx system with the intermediate oxygen partial pressures of 10. 13 Pa and 1. 01 × 10? Pa. The equilibrated phases and their compositions of the quenched samples were analyzed by using SEM/EPMA (Scanning Electron Microscope/Electron Probe Micro-Analysis) and XRD (X-Ray Diffraction). The phase equilibrium results include two cases, the two-phase coexistence and the three-phase coexistence in the high Al2O3 region with oxygen partial pressure of either 10. 13 Pa or 1. 01 × 10? Pa. Effects of oxygen partial pressure and temperature on the liquidus along the primary phase fields of CaO · Al2O3 and CaO · 2Al2O3 were notable. With the decrease of oxygen partial pressure, the liquid area expands and the liquidus of CaO · Al2O3 and CaO · 2Al2O3 primary fields moves to the Al2O3-FeOx region. On the other hand, the liquid area of CaO-Al2O3-FeOx system extends extremely to the high Al2O3 region with the temperature increasing from 1400 to 1500 °C, especially at lower oxygen partial pressure. The present experiment results are in good agreement with the calculated ones by FactSage.

  • Puerarin protected the brain from cerebral ischemia injury via astrocyte apoptosis inhibition

Wang, Nan   Zhang, Yanmin   Wu, Lei   Wang, Yuanji   Cao, Yanjun   He, Langchong   Li, Xia   Zhao, Jianjun

Puerarin is extensively attractive because of its superior neuroprotective effects in stroke prevention. This paper focused on the protective effect of puerarin both in vivo and in vitro. Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was operated on male Sprague-Dawley rat for 2 h, different doses of puerarin (2.62, 7.86 and 23.59 mg/kg) or vehicle were gavaged 1 h after reperfusion. Rats were sacrificed after 24 h or 7 days treatment of puerarin/vehicle. In 7.86 and 23.59 mg/kg groups, infarct volume was reduced (P < 0.05) when puerarin was given once; 7 days puerarin intervention further reduced the infarct volume (P < 0.05) compared with vehicle-treated animal. The modified neurological severity score (mNSS) was also raised in day 4 in 7.86 and 23.59 mg/kg groups and in all groups in day 7 compared with vehicle (P < 0.05). The number of Nissl body, cleaved caspase-3 and GFAP positive cells increased observably after stroke in dose-dependence in rats. In our in vitro study, we have found that puerarin inhibited the pro-apoptosis factor and upregulated the BDNF secret of astrocytes after OGD-R. This indicated that the repairing effect of puerarin was associated with the astrocyte protection. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
