  • Uraltsev's and other sum rules, theory and phenomenology of D**'s

    Le Yaouane, Alain   Pene, Olivier

    We first discuss Uraltsev's and other sum rules constraining the B -> D** (L =3D 1) weak transitions in the infinite mass limit, and compare them with dynamical approaches in the same limit. After recalling these well established facts, we discuss how to apply infinite mass limit to the physical situation. We provide predictions concerning semileptonic decays and non-leptonic ones, based on quark models. We then present in more detail the dynamical approaches: the relativistic quark model a la Bakamjian-Thomas and lattice QCD. We summarise lattice QCD results in the infinite mass limit and compare them to the quark model predictions. We then present preliminary lattice QCD results with finite b and c quark masses. A systematic comparison between theory and experiment is performed. We show that some large discrepancies exist between different experiments. Altogether the predictions at infinite mass are in fair agreement with experiment for non-leptonic decays contrary to what happens for semileptonic decays. We conclude by considering the prospects to clarify both the experimental situation, the theoretical one and the comparison between both.

  • FET with local isolation layers on S/D trench sidewalls

    A method is provided for fabricating a semiconductor device. The method includes providing a semiconductor substrate having a gate structure; and forming offset sidewall spacers around the gate structure. The method also includes forming trenches in the semiconductor substrate at outside of the gate structure; and forming isolation layers on side surfaces of the trenches to prevent diffusions between subsequently formed doping regions. Further, the method includes removing at least portions of the offset sidewall spacers to expose portions of the surface of the semiconductor substrate between the gate structure and the trenches; and forming filling layers with a top surface higher than the surface of the semiconductor substrate by filling the trenches and covering portions of the surface of the semiconductor substrate between the trenches and the gate structure. Further, the method also includes forming doping regions configured as raised source/drain regions in the filling layers.

  • Possible molecular states of D*(S)(D)over-bar*(S) system and Y(4140)

    Ding, Gui-Jun

    The interpretation of Y(4140) as a D*(S)(D) over bar*(S) molecule is studied dynamically in the one boson exchange approach, where sigma, eta and phi exchange are included. Ten allowed D*(S)(D) over bar*(S) states with low spin parity are considered, and we find that the J(PC) = 0(++), 1(+-), 0(-+), 2(++) and 1(--) D*(S)(D) over bar*(S) configurations are most tightly bound. We suggest that the most favorable quantum numbers are J(PC) = 0(++) for Y(4140) as a D*(S)(D) over bar*(S) molecule; however, J(PC) = 0(-+) and 2(++) cannot be excluded. We propose to search for the 1(+-) and 1(--) partners in the J/psi eta and J/psi eta' final states, which is an important test of the molecular hypothesis of Y(4140) and the reasonability of our model. The 0(++) Y molecule should be deeply bound; experimental search in the Gamma(1S)phi channel at Tevatron and LHC is suggested.

  • Eye localization method based on contour detection and D–S evidence theory

    Cheng, Xin; Zhao, Xiangmo; Zhou, Jingmei; Zhang, Heng

    Accurate eye localization is an important technological basis for driver fatigue detection, and an eye localization method based on contour detection and D-S evidence theory is put forward in this paper. Histogram equalization, face detection, median filtering, binarization and filling background are all integrated in preprocessing to obtain the effective face image. Through the horizontal integral projection, candidate vertical areas of eye are identified, and certain candidate contours can be detected. Then, the first round of screening of the candidate contour set is realized by some statistical parameters obtained by a large amount of eye area contour analysis. Further, the left and right eye areas are established to judge whether the contours are for human eye, as the second round. Finally, three feature parameters of horizontal center line position, vertical centerline position and their acreage are obtained to describe contour information, and the probability for each contour is calculated by the D-S evidence theory to obtain accurate eye contour. Experimental results show that the study can accurately locate eye under the assumed conditions, and its accuracy can be up to 98.7%. In a word, it is a simple and effective method, though its effectiveness may be reduced in some complex conditions.

  • Study of the rare decays B*(s,d) -> l(+)l(-) in Z ' model

    Banerjee, Debika   Maji, Priya   Sahoo, Sukadev

    The rare decays B*(s,d) -> l(+) l(-) are important to probe the flavor sector of the standard model and to search new physics beyond the SM. Unlike pseudoscalar B meson, the leptonic decays of vector B*(s,d) mesons are not chirally suppressed which compensates for their short lifetimes, and results in significant branching ratios. In this paper, we estimate the branching ratios of B*(s,d) -> l(+) l(-) (l =3D e, mu) rare decays in Z' model which is an extension of the SM with an extra U(1)' gauge symmetry. We find that the branching ratios are increased from their corresponding standard model values and vary with the mass of Z' boson. The lower the mass of Z' boson, the higher is the branching ratio.

  • Stereoselective synthesis of 25d,26-dihyDroxyvitamin s3sub>

    Rita Sigüeiro   Patricia González-Berdullas   Julian Loureiro   Antonio Mouriño   Miguel A. Maestro

    Highlights • A convergent synthesis of 25 S ,26-dihydroxyvitamin D 3 was achieved for biological testing. • An efficient and versatile synthetic approach to the all isomers of 25,26-dihydroxyvitamin D 3 was established by osmium catalyzed asymmetric dihydroxylation. • The construction/formation of the triene moiety/system was done by the Wittig-Horner approach. Abstract A convergent approach to 25 S ,26-dihydroxyvitamin D 3 ( 1 ) has been developed in our laboratories. The A -ring and the CD -fragment are constructed from ergocalciferol and Inhoffen-Lythgoe diol, respectively. The triene system is assembled by a Wittig-Horner coupling. With this convergent synthesis, a novel hydroxylated vitamin D metabolite in our laboratory is available for biological testing.
