  • Thermodynamic investigation of MF-MgF2 (M =3D Na, K) system

    Mukherjee, Sumanta

The molar Gibbs energy of formation of NaMgF3(s) in NaF-MgF2 system and KMgF3(s) and K2MgF4(s) in KF-MgF2 system has been determined using an electromotive force (e.m.f.) technique. For this purpose, fluoride cell has been constructed for each compound using CaF2(s) as the solid electrolyte. From the measured e.m.f. values and required Gibbs energy data available in the literature, a dagger(f) G (o) (m)(T) for NaMgF3(s), KMgF3(s), and K2MgF4(s) have been calculated. To determine the stability domains of NaMgF3(s), KMgF3(s), and K2MgF4(s), the binary phase diagram NaF(s)-MgF2(s) and KF(s)-MgF2(s) and ternary phase diagram Na-Mg-F-2 and K-Mg-F-2 have been calculated and chemical potential diagrams of Na-Mg-F-O and K-Mg-F-O system were calculated.

We report the discovery and the analysis of the planetary microlensing event, OGLE-2013-BLG-1761. There are some degenerate solutions in this event because the planetary anomaly is only sparsely sampled. However, the detailed light-curve analysis ruled out all stellar binary models and shows the lens to be a planetary system. There is the so-called close/wide degeneracy in the solutions with the planet/host mass ratio of q similar to (7.0 +/- 2.0)x10(-3) and q similar to (8.1 +/- 2.6)x10(-3) with the projected separation in Einstein radius units of s =3D 0.95 (close) and s =3D 1.18 (wide), respectively. The microlens parallax effect is not detected, but the finite source effect is detected. Our Bayesian analysis indicates that the lens system is located D-L =3D 6.9(-1.2)(+1.0) kpc away from us and the host star is an M/K dwarf with a mass of M-L =3D 0.33(-0.19)(+0.32) M-circle dot orbited by a super-Jupiter mass planet with a mass of m(P) =3D 2.7(-1.5)(+2.5) M-Jup at the projected separation of a(perpendicular to) =3D 1.8(-0.5)(+0.5) au. The preference of the large lens distance in the Bayesian analysis is due to the relatively large observed source star radius. The distance and other physical parameters may be constrained by the future high-resolution imaging by large ground telescopes or HST. If the estimated lens distance is correct, then. this planet provides another sample for testing the claimed deficit of planets in the Galactic bulge.

  • The absorption spectrum of (CH4)-C-13 at 80 K and 296 K near 1.73 mu m

    Konefal, M.   Ghysels, M.   Mondelain, D.   Kassi, S.   Campargue, A.

The absorption spectrum of (CH4)-C-13 is recorded in the center of the tetradecad near 1.73 mu m (5695-5850 cm(-1)) at 296 K and 80 K by direct absorption spectroscopy (DAS). The achieved noise equivalent absorption of the spectra is alpha(min) approximate to 5 x 10(-8) cm(-1) leading to line intensity detectivity threshold on the order of 5 x 10(-26) and 5 x 10(-27) cm/molecule at 296 K and 80 K, respectively. As a result, two empirical line lists are constructed including about 3350 and 2070 lines at room temperature and liquid nitrogen temperature, respectively. For comparison, the HITRAN database provides in the region only the strongest (CH4)-C-13 lines (about 440 lines in total). From the intensity ratios of the lines measured at the two temperatures, 1529 empirical values of the lower state energy level (E-emp) were derived. Their accuracy is reflected by the clear propensity of the corresponding empirical values of the lower state rotational quantum number, J(emp). to be close to integer values. They provide accurate temperature dependence for 91% and 99% of the total (CH4)-C-13 absorption in the region at 296 K and 80 K, respectively. The comparison to the TheoReTS ab initio line list shows significant deviations for line positions. The obtained experimental data will be valuable to tune ab initio line positions to empirical values in future versions of the theoretical line lists. (C) 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

  • Thermodynamic properties of the NdBr3-MBr binary systems (M =3D Na, K)

Bounouri, Yassine   Berkani, Madjid   Zamouche, Abdelmalek   Danczak, Anna   Chojnacka, Ida   Rycerz, Leszek

Phase equilibria in the NdBr3-MBr binary systems (M =3D Na, K) were established by differential scanning calorimetry. The system with NaBr is a simple eutectic system with two compounds that decompose in the solid state (NaNdBr4 at 603 K and Na3NdBr6 at 580 K). In the system with KBr, three stoichiometric compounds exist. First (K3NdBr6) is formed from KBr and K2NdBr5 at 680 K and melts congruently at 918 K. Second (KNd2Br7) melts congruently at 814 K. Third compound (K2NdBr5) melts incongruently at 822 K.
