It is shown that the study of the ω-ρ0 interference pattern in J/ψ → (ρ0+ω)η → π+ π− η decay provides evidence for a large (nearly 9掳) relative phase between the one-photon and the three-gluon decay amplitudes.

Among the thermodynamic models applicable to solid–liquid–vapor phases, Yokozeki’s model is considered as the first repulsion-based analytic equation of state (EOS) in which a discontinuity is introduced in the isotherm. However, it was found that the model violates some physical constraints due to the empirically introduced discontinuity. This work focuses on the evaluation of the empirical basis of the model through scaled-particle theory (SPT) and a modification of the model to satisfy the physical constraint.

This article presents a discussion paper on the rational and irrational design loads for temporary structures. A method for modifying estimates of future natural hazard risk on the basis of short-term performance of temporary structures was outlined. Irrational justifications for using modified loads was addressed. Flaw in referenced approaches is the premise that the designer's assumptions regarding the life spans of structures somehow influence the risk posed to occupants.

This article examines the discussion paper "Practice Periodical and Irrational Design Loads for 'Temporary Structures'," by Howard Hill, published in the 2004 issue of the journal. In the paper, Hill questioned the applications of simple design-life justifications for load-reduction allowances in temporary structures. He used examples to provide a thorough discussion on the inherent safety levels in design.

In this article, I seek to give an impression of Charles Bukowski’s immense popularity in West Germany and of how his writing and the myths surrounding his life appealed to a wave of West German poets in the 1970s. I show that he had a particularly strong influence on the work of J枚rg Fauser. While many left-wing poets were attracted by Bukowski’s demythologisation of the figure of the poet; his relaxed, conversational style; the dialectic of self and society found in his poems; and the potentially political quality of a na茂ve narrator, virtually none of them mimicked Bukowski’s male chauvinistic posturing. By contrast, Fauser, in Die Harry Gelb Story (1973), drew on precisely this male chauvinism, obscenity and coarseness in order to offer an alternative to what he saw as the well-meaning, overly optimistic literature predominating in West Germany. However, it was not until Trotzki, Goethe und das Gl眉ck (1979) that Fauser found a voice truly akin to Bukowski’s which allowed him to express a new sobriety after years of heroin addiction.

We analyze two recent reactions of Belle, producing D炉 and D炉* states that have an enhancement of the invariant D炉 , D炉* mass distribution above threshold, from the point of view that they might be indicative of the existence of a hidden charm scalar and an axial vector meson state below D炉 or D炉* thresholds, respectively. We conclude that the data is compatible with the existing prediction of a hidden charm scalar meson with mass around 3700MeV, though other possibilities cannot be discarded. The peak seen in the D炉* spectrum above threshold is, however, unlikely to be due to a threshold enhancement produced by the presence, below threshold, of the hidden charm axial vector meson X(3872) .

We report a new measurement of J/ψ, ψ′ and Drell–Yan cross-sections, in the kinematical domain -0.425<ycm<0.575 and -0.5<cosθCS<0.5, performed at the CERN-SPS using 400 GeV/c incident protons on Be, Al, Cu, Ag, W and Pb targets. The dependence of the charmonia production cross-sections on the size of the target nucleus allows to quantify the so-called normal nuclear absorption. In the framework of the Glauber model, this new measurement is combined with results previously obtained with the same apparatus, under different experimental conditions, and leads to a precise determination of the J/ψ and ψ′ absorption cross-sections in the surrounding nuclear matter.
