    A cleaning apparatus includes a combing unit including a series of spaced protrusions or teeth extending into a cleaning roller for preventing build up and removing debris (such as hair, string, and the like). The protrusions extend along a substantial portion of the cleaning roller and extend partially into the cleaning roller to intercept the debris as it passes around the roller. The protrusions have angled leading edges that are not aligned with a rotation center of the cleaning roller and are directed into or against a direction of rotation of the cleaning roller. The combing unit and protrusions have a shape and configuration designed to facilitate debris removal from the cleaning roller with minimal impact on the operation of the cleaning apparatus. The cleaning apparatus may include a surface cleaning head of an upright vacuum cleaner or sweeper or a robotic vacuum cleaner.

  • Detecting Geometric Conflicts for Generalisation of Polygonal Maps

    Polygon generalisation is an essential process to produce multi-scale polygonal maps which are able to visualize categorical data at various levels of detail and with multiple themes. Detecting geometric conflicts, existing within an individual polygon and between polygons, is a primary step for polygon generalisation. This paper designs an inward-outward-buffering approach to detect narrow conflicts within an individual polygon. The approach not only detects the existence of narrow sections but also indicates their exact locations inside polygons. Another approach is presented to detect proximity conflicts in between polygons with two main steps. The first step associates buffering with an optimized proximity index to explore possible polygon clusters and spatial contexts around a problematic polygon. Based on the detected polygon clusters, the conflict regions are identified by combining outward-inward-buffering with topological operators. The tests with a real landuse dataset and two maps from other papers demonstrate that the presented approaches not only detect geometric conflict effectively, but also provide useful information for the selection of subsequent generalisation operators.

    A robotic cleaner includes a housing, a suction conduit with an opening, and a leading roller mounted in front of a brush roll. An inter-roller air passageway may be defined between the leading roller and the brush roll wherein the lower portion of the leading roller is exposed to a flow path to the suction conduit and an upper portion of the leading roller is outside of the flow path. Optionally, a combing unit includes a plurality of combing protrusions extending into the leading roller and having leading edges not aligned with a center of the leading roller. Optionally, a sealing strip is located along a rear side of the opening and along a portion of left and right sides of the opening. The underside may define side edge vacuum passageways extending from the sides of the housing partially between the leading roller and the sealing strip towards the opening.

Abstract Novel heteropolyacid-based hybrid composites (denoted as PMA@COF-300) have been obtained by immobilizing 12-phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) onto a covalent organic framework material (COF-300). Structural and spectroscopic studies show that the PMA units are uniformly dispersed on the surface/cavities of COF-300, and relatively stable linkages can be built between the PMA units and the matrix of COF-300 when suitable preparation conditions are adopted. The catalytic properties of the PMA@COF-300 are investigated in the epoxidation of olefins with t-BuOOH as oxidant. The experimental results show that the PMA@COF-300 composites can act as efficient heterogeneous catalysts for the epoxidation of cyclooctene, and can even convert the relatively inert terminal alkene of 1-octene into 1,2-epoxyoctane rapidly at mild conditions. The existence of unique interpenetrated 3-D structure, suitable porous characteristics, and the abundant protonated imine groups in COF-300 play critical role in dispersing and stabilizing the anions of PMA, which is beneficial to the fabrication of highly active and stable heterogeneous PMA functionalized COF-300 catalysts for olefin epoxidation.
