Apparatus for loading rows of containers onto a loading station in which the containers are pushed onto the loading station in rows, preferably with the containers in adjacent rows being staggered relative to one another, the leading container row engages a wall which substantially uniformly frictionally resists the movement of rows onto the loading station, and in which side walls which supportingly engage the containers at the ends of the rows are moved with the rows as the loading station is filled.
An optical device having a first substrate having a fast optical axis and a slow optical axis and a first end and a second substrate having a fast optical axis and a slow optical axis and a second end, the second end is positioned adjacent to the first end such that the fast optical axis of the first substrate is coupled to the slow optical axis of the second substrate and the slow optical axis of the first substrate is coupled to the fast optical axis of the second substrate, thereby permitting an optical signal to pass between the first and second substrates. The first substrate and the second substrate have substantially equal length to thereby substantially eliminate polarization dispersion.
A portable, self-contained, microprocessor controlled apparatus for monitoring, storing and transmitting detected physiological information, including an input section for sequentially receiving analog signals corresponding to heart activity for as many as twelve different cardiac sensors. An input section is provided for receiving analog electrical signals corresponding to blood pressure from at least one sensor. An analog to digital converter is provided for converting the received analog signals to a series of digital pulses at a predetermined sampling rate and for receiving and storing the digital pulses in predetermined memory locations. A control section is provided for recalling the stored digital pulses from the memory and for receiving the recalled digital pulses and for transmitting them to a remote location over a communications system. In the preferred embodiment, the input section is for receiving analog signals corresponding to cardiac conductivity, brainwave activity, blood pressure, blood flow and other ultrasonic cardiovascular and intracranial data. The latter signals are also converted to digital form for storage and later recall and transmission to a remote location.
A process for producing and refining trisubstituted glycol monoesters, e.g., 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoester. The improvement resides in immediately distilling the crude condensation product mixture as it leaves the reactor before it has cooled or had any contact with added water.
The present invention provides a method of treatment of fungal infection with an antifungal topoisomerase I inhibitor of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Ar is (C.sub.6 -C.sub.12)aryl, a (5- to 12-membered) heteroaryl comprising 1-3 N, S or non-peroxide O, wherein N is unsubstituted or is substituted with H, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl or benzyl; or benzo; X is H, CN, CHO, OH, acetyl, CF.sub.3, O(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, NO.sub.2, NH.sub.2, halogen or halo-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl; each Y is individually H, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl or aralkyl; Y' is H or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl; n is 0 or 1; and each Z is individually H, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, halogen or halo(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A process for delivering a predetermined ratio of a compressible fluid and a non-compressible fluid which comprises the measurement of only the flowrate of the compressible fluid, the activation of an air-driven positive displacement pump at appropriate times, the pumping of a non-compressible fluid with the air-driven pump, mixing the supercritical fluid and non-compressible fluid and depositing the mixture onto a substrate.
There is disclosed a method and apparatus for providing call clearance in a packet-switched data communications system. The apparatus disclosed detects the request of an originating terminal to end a call and delays the request for a predetermined calculated time period. The period is determined according to the length of the message being transmitted, the number and type of transmission links being traversed and the speed of transmission of the sending and receiving terminals. At the termination of this period the apparatus issues a normal clear request which then disconnects the connection while assuring that any data which may have been delayed reaches the destination terminal.
A new water-base lubricant composition has been discovered which is uniquely suitable for elevated temperature metal forming operations. The water-base lubricant invention herein generally comprises, about 1% to about 40% by weight of a polycarboxylic acid salt reaction product, such as trimellitic acid and an alkali metal or an alkali earth metal hydroxide, such that the pH of the composition is about 6.5 to about 10; about 0.1% to about 12% by weight of a water dispersible thickening agent; and the balance water. The water-base lubricant may also include extreme pressure additives, performance enhancers, and biocidal agents. Also disclosed is a process for using the above-described water-base lubricant composition.
