DEVICE FOR DETECTING INTER-CYLINDER AIR-FUEL RATIO IMBALANCE IN MULTI-CYLINDER INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

Abstract(summary):

Provided is a device for detecting an inter-cylinder air-fuel ratio imbalance in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine. This device is equipped with: a supercharger installed in connection with a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine; a bypass passage that bypasses the turbine of the supercharger; a waste gate valve that opens/closes the bypass passage; an air-fuel ratio sensor installed in a portion of the exhaust passage of the multi-cylinder internal combustion engine downstream from the convergence point of the downstream side of the turbine and the downstream side of the bypass passage; and a determination unit programmed so as to determine an imbalance in the air-fuel ratio between the cylinders, by comparing the degree of variation in the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor, or a parameter value correlated therewith, with a prescribed threshold value. The determination unit is programmed so as not to perform a determination of an imbalance in the air-fuel ratio between the cylinders when the degree of opening of the waste gate valve is equal to or greater than a prescribed standard degree of opening.
