Abstract: In a consideration of four films made by John Schlesinger (Yanks, The Falcon and the Snowman, An Englishman Abroad, and A Question of Attribution) in the cultural and political context of the Reagan-Thatcher years, the essay argues that the films reflect the psychological change that accompanies the disintegration of democratic institutions.
