2015

Abstract(summary):

Summary

Shingles is a common disease that particularly affects people in adulthood. The risk of onset and persistence of post-herpetic neuralgia is strongly linked to age and comorbidities as a result of a significant “burden” in the elderly significantly altering the quality of life. The only vaccine currently on the market is a live attenuated vaccine, which reduces the incidence of shingles by 50% and of post-herpetic neuralgia by 65%. In 2015, it is recommended to vaccinate immunocompetent adults aged 65 to 74 years. Other inactivated vaccines are under development.
